Any issues with California 1400
« on: April 28, 2013, 08:56:15 PM »
I haven’t kept up with any of the recent posts of those who have purchased one of the 1400’s, I’m curious if there has been any issues with any of them yet?
I tested drove a custom 1400 last week, awesome bike, I’m considering trading in my California Vintage.

Only thing I can tell you is that the Oz importer has several that have now clocked over 10,000km and they have had no problems, nothing, zip, nada.

Good grief Rich, this had been answered a dozen times already. Its externally accessible like all the CARC bikes except the Bellagio but uses a different, lower profile filter because the motor is lower in the frame.

Can you recommend a good size hose clamp for this shorter filter?   :pop

Any report on gas mileage? I was disappointed at the 23 mpg mentioned in one road test.

Paul, I'm about to get on a plane to Sydney for the big launch event tomorrow, we'll be doing a five hour loop, I should be able to give you some idea after that.

I have the California 1400 custom and I haven't noticed any problems, however I have ridden the dealer's demo which is a touring and noticed excessive amount of heat coming out of the engines. The heat was really uncomfortable and the metal part right behind the engine would sting me whenever I touched it even when wearing jeans. Is this the same problem I read in some of the reviews and has been fixed in later productions such as my custom? Or is this unique to that piece ?

Has anyone noticed this heat issue?

2600 miles, no problems. Heat is not an issue. 45 mpg us gallons. Onboard computer gives very low mpg estimates. Do the math yourself. Much better...

I've got 35,000+ miles on my 2014 California 1400 Touring.  No issues, but it definitely pits out heat in hot summer riding.  I understand there is a heat deflecter kit available but haven't seen it yet.  On board fuel milage computer is at least 10% off, (reads less than actual milage).  Using my calculator I found I was getting about 10% better milage than indicated.  Most comfortable Guzzi of the 13 I've owned.  Love it.

I;ve got 35,000+ miles on my 1400 with absolutely no issues.  I've rode in every conceivable type of weather and roads, including Alaska and back, 12,400 miles.

I get low to mid 40's mpg US. on the highway.  City stop and go will drop it down to 30's.  The on board fuel milage computer is way off.  It shows worse milage than actual when doing the math.

bike is waterproof, bags are not! I had to drill a hole in mine to let the water out otherwise my stuff was floating in a lake by the end of a rainy ride.

No issues to date on my custom, 12000 miles and counting. 45 mpg highway two up and loaded up. Great riding bike. If you like a cruiser.
