VR6 Horex
« on: May 16, 2013, 09:46:21 PM »
Most of y'all know that I am not a big fan of bikes with more than 2 cylinders but this one still fascinates me. Sort of a cross between a straight-6 and a vee-6. Similar trick as the VW "W-8" motors.

I don't think it's as complex as a W8 (son owned one ..... neat design.)  It appears to be quite similar in spec, aside from size, to the the VW VR6 engine.  Most likely (sorry, didn't read all the Horex info) a single cylinder head that covers both banks of 3 cylinders, and a very narrow angle engine .... the VW is/was a 15 degree engine.  Are they (VW) still making it .... don't know.

Sure, and we have dealer support proximity issues?

That thing has got the downest of induction drafts. I imagine the induction noise is awful pretty.

Guess it'll go on my Britten, VR1000, Hesketh and Morbidelli Leno-fantasy wish list.

I remember reading a ress release dressed up as journalism a few years ago which said VW had a lot of imput into it.

VW Bentley have just launched a more fuel efficent version of their W12 it increases from 16 to 16.5mpg(US).

Reminds me of the Lancia Fulvia engine.

V-4 with approximately 12 degrees between banks and a single cylinder head.

In 1995 VW put their VR6 into the Eurovan, that replaced the 5 cyl. Audi engine in the van.  We had one for a number of years.  It was the smoothest and most compact engine VW had and made the van what it should have been when they brought it out.  Jurgen

Did Europe get a manual transmission with it? Unfortunately, all the US models were available with was an automatic that was not very durable. I much prefer my 5 cyl., 5 speed, '93 Eurovan to any with an automatic. What I really want is TDI, 5 spd. with Syncro AWD!

Thanks for posting this.

The W engines are fascinating.

I'm surprised BMW didn't try this with their behemoth K1600 series instead of the straight-six.
