Mistral, Agostini or lafranconi??
« on: June 23, 2014, 04:17:40 PM »
I just love my new '14 v7 stone, got it first serviced and feel a huge difference on how she rides now, much smoother. I installed a new ''stucchi'' handlebar with bar end mirrors and it actually feels more comfortable than i thought. It handles even better than before i find.

I'm now thinking about getting new exhaust pipes but i really don't know which one to get. Do you guys have any recomandations for this? I live in Montréal and i want to know if somebody already ordered them from Canada. How much were the border fees ? You can have an unpleasant surprise at the post office.

Thanks in advance

Ju

So glad you love your bike!  You have a great one.  I haven't upgraded my exhaust, but do a good search here and you'll find very good opinions (and even video) on all of them.

I have Mistrals and like them but either of the other two of your choices are fine ones. Don't be surprised if you end up needing to get your ECU re-flashed to minimize the popping on decel

I have ordered from Agostini.
They will usually ship either UPS, or DHL, so the customs can be a bit pricy, but you will see the pipes in around 2 - 3 days max. I had payed the DHL lady $112 at the door for my crossover and pipe. Most of it was GST (HST for you), and $20 customs brokerage fee from DHL.
Hope this helps.

Too bad we couldn't meet up, I wanted to convince my wife to go to Unibroue this weekend on our vacation to Burlington VT but she does not want to make the 2.5 hour drive. I would probably have bought them and smuggled them over unless this is illegal then I could put them on my Jackal and say they fell off.

The Agostinis sound even better than my Staintunes. If you can, I'd recommend you go for those.

:+1  for Mistrals mine sound awesome, another advantage they don't get hot enough to burn (I'm talking the carbon fiber ones)

Get a post box South of the border and just pop down for the parts, save the brokerage which could easily be over $60 0n something like that.

If you plan on installing a centerstand, make sure you buy the pipes that have the bolts on the side, not a welded on tab. You will need the bolts for a centerstand stop.

+10 on the Ago's. The sound is incredible. I got them from AF1 in Texas and they have great customer service.

I've listened to examples of Youtube videos posted of Mistral, Agostini, and La Franconi mufflers.   While I was "okay" with the stock mufflers on my '13 Special, listening to these others back to back with stock - I kind of like the tone that the aftermarket systems have and they make the stock muffler sound tinny.  So, it got me thinking...

I don't like loud motorcycles, so if I were to swap out my mufflers, I'd leave the baffles / dB killers in.

My two questions are:
1. Which of these aftermarket mufflers are quietest with baffles in? and
2. Is that quietest one similar to or much louder and more obnoxious to a sleeping neighbor at 0500 than the stock muffler?

Ago's for sure!!! A little expensive, but the sound is by far the best I have heard. I to listened to all on the videos and taking in the poor sound quality, the Ago's sounded the best. This should be a one time buy, so when you ride and here that great sound, you will be glad you did. Comes with db killers so you can tailor your preference. I have the black and they contrast good on my racer.

Call Jim at Hamlin Cycles LLC in CT.  Take a ride down and have him do the swap for you.  I'm fairly sure he can get an ECU swap and have it pre-mapped for whichever pipe you choose.  he can get any of them.  Certified Guzzi tech, dealer and a really great shop.  Make a nice trip out of it and you'll be rewarded for years.  Only a days ride for you-and a nice one at that.

Me too. They hang with a welded tab, but include a bracket to be used as a centerstand stop.

Wow...didn't realize the agostini's were 930 or so.  I couldn't justify spending that much.

How about between the Mistrals and the La Franconis...anyone heard both with baffles in?  How's the loudness level compared with stock?  Both seem to have a nice sound quality from what I hear.

I've a 2013 V7 Special. Added Mistral 'shorties'.
Although I like the sound: the fact they stop short of the end of the rear tire, in my mind, matches the look/style of the bike better than other options.
Regarding buying in Canada: definitely. I shop through Columbia Car & Cycle in Nakusp BC. He's a bona fide old time Laverda dealer who keeps the faith alive.
Imports orders direct from all the 'little' suppliers in Italy about twice a month. Prices are fair, service is more than a slogan, and he seems to know every nook and cranny of the Italian motorcycle parts world. The price I paid matched AF1 while shipping was only charged from his shop...
I asked for Raask handle bars. He declined by saying he didn't like their finish... but he could get a set of Brevettato's new in the box. Sold.
Give Wolfgang a try. He's a good source with old school class.
