I know many have had issue with Dellorto white floats, so here's yet another example. Just a few weeks after install, noticed funny things happening. Pulled it today and one float was COMPLETELY FILLED. Only a small bubble like it was forced into it. Yep, at the seam it comes apart. I cannot believe they are putting these things out there like this! Luckily have a black backup that seems to work though it's not the right PHF like I need. Is there anywhere we can get black floats that don't leak??????

lots of good ideas here. Same may work. When my current fix fails I'm going with the two part systems. I had 3 of the last 4 floats I purchased fail all at the same spot.

They can be dried out in the sun but it takes a long long time. You can drill it then seal the hole if you are impatient. ;-T

The question I have is with all the known issues why did you fit them before ensuring the seam was sealed? ??? A run of epoxy or similarly robust material or run around with a soldering iron to melt the join before fitting. ;-T

I've only been caught out by this once and it was a long time ago. :BEER:

Wanted to believe my "clean living" might keep me from having an issue. ;) I would rather spend the money on some good ones rather than try to patch these POS's. Are good one's available??

Good luck. Don't through your POS's away. Send them to me. I will be happy to pay shipping. I think the only way is to find a way to repair the white ones. My first repair lasted about 6 months and I'm in my third month of the latest repair. Stay tuned. :BEER:

I work in Quality Assurance. This would amuse me if it weren't so personal.

From this distance I'm categorizing this one as design crime, although on appeal the engineer might be able to plea bargain it down to a supplier subcontractor failure. But if it's made to spec and this happens then the engineer should take the hit.

The white floats for Amals are the same crap quality. I bought 6 - 3 of them leaked right out of the box.

Now I just use old ones I found at swap meets or the new black foam ones .....

I am sorry your right. I did a quick look and thought those were the right ones. The ones you show are for the phf and are the crappy white ones. Once again I apologize.

Yes, it's not the fact I bought them or anyone else bought them but the fact that we have no choices for something other than these white POS. It is incomprehensible to me that a reputable carb company could take an important component like the float and render it useless within a short time of installation, possibly leading to stranding riders roadside. Let's hope they come up with something better soon.

I keep a white one that I repaired with me now. Until this is resolved all we can do is repair the white ones. As I posted send them to me. I will pay postage. :BEER:

My Le Mans is still running OK meaning the repair on 5/25/14 is still holding. If the ones pictured for sale from Stein-Dinse are the ones you get they just might be the way to go. Scott is you are going to order some will you let us know? :BEER:

Well after calculating 14.20 euros each and 29 euros for them to ship to me for a total of 57.40 euros or 65.24 us dollars for two floats which I did not need. So, I never completed the order when the sent the invoice to me. I couldn't justify in my mind 65 bucks for two floats! Sorry.

They do look like the correct ones, but at 6.5 grams.

I just stripped down the VHB29Cs on my old Eldo
It had green floats part No 7450.2 Gr 14, this bike has been apart for 20+ years and so has never seen Ethanol
I assumed that the green floats would fail so I ordered a pair of white ones, who knew ???

We need someone with better skills than I to start making brass ones, can't be that hard.

Or maybe shellac over cork? ;) ;D Brass isn't the answer either, IMO. I've seen more brass float failures in my old equipment (granted they are older than my Loops) than I ever have with the original green/brown or black Dellorto floats. If you want VHB floats that are guaranteed not to leak, find a set of the solid black ones, like these:

What's wrong with the cork fix?
I realize it's not as good as a non leaking float but perhaps it would be a good backup.
Paint it over with something

Perhaps there's a spray foam that will resist gas, fill the float and carve off the excess

How about dipping the float in a fuel tank sealant? Ought to resist gasoline.

I bought one of those Keihin carbs for my TR6R. It worked but in the single-carb application it ran up against the frame central downtube with no room for an air cleaner, so I went back to dicking with the Amal and eventually got it to work right.
