Oh, Guzzi, what have you done? ???

   MGX-21

"Going out of business since 1923..."

Merged into the EICMA 2014 threadfest, since the MGX-21 was discussed at length there...

Well, well.

A lot of us did not expect Moto Guzzi to actually market the Italian Bagger. (need better nickname!)

I saw it a few weeks ago.  They did the same "no photos, please" routine.  It's sure not my cup of tea at all.  I'm not sure whose it is.  That pointy little fairing is downright ugly.

Harley's best selling model has 2-inches of rear suspension travel.

Wow.

If that doesn't speak volumes about the average motorcycle owner in the USA, nothing does.

Hopefully Guzzi will provide some suspension travel on the MGX-21.

I've gotten so used to monoshock bikes with 5-inches of travel (or more), riding short travel twin-shock bikes is always a jolting experience I always regret!

Well yeah , only 2 inches , but it isn't well damped
You are right though , there is a long running story line regarding Harley Davidsons and "Death Wobble" . Most of the true believers simply don't care . "Well yeah they wobble , but they are the ultimate expression of freedom" is the usual attitude . Dunno .

Probably my biggest gripe with Harley (I actually have a number of them) is how in pursuit of even lower and lower (less intimidating / "cool" looking bikes") they've basically abandoned any real taller models with cornering clearance.

I mean, if you go back a couple of decades to the mid 90s, their Hugger (lowered Sportster) still had more lean angle than ALL of today's sportster models (since the demise of the XR1200) EXCEPT certain export models like the "R" to which is only has more lean angle IN ONE DIRECTION (1990's Sporsters 40 / 36, 1990s Hugger 30.5 / 34 vs. late-models anywhere from 25 / 24 to 29 /30, vs. late "R" models 32 / 32, or the XR1200 39 / 40).

Ironically MOST of the current Touring/Bagger models have MORE lean angle than any of the current Sportsters, and most of the lean angles they had decades ago.

1990s baggers - 30 / 31 vs. current 33 / 31 except for a few lowered models like the Street Glide which is more like 32 / 29

Talk to some people who don't ride or haven't in a while and you might get a different reaction to the MGX21. Its doubtful MG is trying to market to loyalists but rather trying to create new ones. The people that like old Challengers, Camaros and so often cast dim views on the new models. Dodge and GM really don't care, there aren't enough of them around to make something they'll like.

Its just marketing. MG probably looks around and thinks who they'd rather sell to, people that won't be around in 20-30 years or those that will and have a few more bikes in their future?

I'm firmly of the opinion that the "Death Wobble" has to do with improperly set-up and/or modified bikes.

NEVER experienced it on any Harley I've owned or ridden, nor do I personally know anyone who has...

So now we have a model with a 21" front wheel .... Hey, thats good for a dirt bike version!

And maybe some new bagger accessories to lust after! Ape hangers!

You know of course, the Japanese manufacturers wont let this appear without a response.

Maybe it opens up the opportunity for magazine bagger shootouts? Then MG can be included instead of a stepchild thing like "the BMW got recalled so we included the Norge".

Nephew Ricky is the "head hawg" in these parts. Works for Harley doing training in his spare time, President of the local hawg chapter, etc. He bought a 34 thousand dollar  CVO that does it. No, it's not modified, or as far as I know improperly set up. He hates it, but is stuck with it. He'd take a serious bath if he tried to get out from underneath it..

Something has to be wrong.

I mean if HE does the training he would have known if it was something they ALL do and never bought it right?

Been reading and trying to understand this designer in CA.

I like the Eldorado looks, but would rather have 17" than 16" wheels.  From the review doubt I would like the OEM shocks.

I like the Audace 18" front wheel but not the 6" X 16" rear with 200mm tire.  But it has longer and better shocks (more ground clearance for cornering).  From this review, I doubt I would like the drag bars either.

I would like the Eldorado with the shocks off the Audace and maybe the front wheel/tire off the Audace.  Both are tubeless.  Oh, and red, no black here.  Forgot, would like the short black exhaust off the Audace also.

Do you think the CHP were modifying the bikes prior to testing them?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gmw6QppXnEY

Perhaps it was poor load distribution contributing to the waltz.

I said something wrong or modified, I.e. maybe even from the factory some faculty component. But yes, I would think the CHP changed something, if even as simple as preload and or weight distribution.

My point is there has to be a reason only some birch about this.. Like the Norge in the other thread.

Don't think it's much of a equalvilency.  One guy complaining that his Norge is not stable, vs who knows how many complaining their hog won't go straight?

That isn't my point . Belief is a powerful thing , and laughing in the face of those beliefs (that HDs will death wobble) is an even more powerful force . Thus adding to the mythology and mystique of HD ownership .

The Cycle Gear September 15 issue has article on the MGX-21.  Page 32.  The styling still isn't totally sorted (no turn signals or brake lights).  As others have posted it does look like the popular style these days, hope they sell a ton of them.

I thought MGX-21 had a Cadillac-style LED strip in the trailing edge of the rear fender that served as the tail light.
