Camp Carlo - Daytona Bike Week
« on: December 24, 2014, 12:07:50 PM »
Looks like a crew of us will be camping at "Camp Carlo" during Bike week again this coming year.
This is Not A Rally! No Pins, Cups, meals or the like included. Though many nights someone, usually Charlie Brackett, cooks up something delightful.

Reserve your own Campsite and join us. Bike week is Friday March 10 to Sunday March 19 this year.
Campground info: http://www.volusia.org/core/fileparse.php/4184/urlt/Lake-Monroe.pdf
I will be in 17 and 18. Others have all the sites around the big community fire ring.

PS I just edited last years notice. Now I gotta bump it.

Just spent the last six hours digging out my trailer. Under a 10ft drift.  I figured today would b the last day to get it out. tonite, tomorrow and the rest of the week will be in the single digits and probably be buried until April. Looking forward to leaving next Saturday, if we don't get another substantial storm on Wednesday. way to much snow this year!!!!

Speed Week will be here before we know it. I am planning on going again.

Camp Carlo is great for many folks but for anyone wanting a camp area closer to the festivities around Daytona, many of us will be staying at Holiday Travel Park off I 95 just north of Bruce Rossmeyer's.  Lots of European bike enthusiasts stay there every year.  Holiday has good facilities, bathrooms and showers as well as an on-site breakfast cafĂ© for those cool, early mornings when you want to hang around and chat a while.

No matter where you stay, we will have our annual Guzzi lunch at Martin's on Flagler Beach.  Everyone welcome!

I'm also sure the Pantheon Pizza scene will also be a go again this year.

Any of you guys that have regularly gone to bike week know what happened to the Stetson European swap meet that they used to have every year on the Deland campus?
There was always a bunch of Guzzis and Ducatis as well as a lot of British bikes parked on the grass. They have not had it there several years now and it was my favorite bike week activity. Was it just discontinued or moved to another location?

I'll be at Holiday from 10 March 2017 until the end of Bike Week.  Feel free to camp nearby and socialize about Guzzi stuff or just motorcycles in general.  As Leafman has said, good showers and breakfast available on site.  Just tell the campground folks that you are part of the Norton group.  OK, I know you do not have a Norton.  My Norton friends have an arrangement with the campground.  Don't ask, it's a good deal.

The Stetson swap meet and auction is history...gone.  That stuff moved to the Barber Vintage weekend in Birmingham.  It's a shame that both the vintage races and the auction are no longer part of Bike Week.  It would appear that the folks in Florida gave up a really important part of Bike Week and now Birmingham benefits.  There is still a bunch of stuff to do in Daytona in early March.  Get away from the snow and enjoy the sunshine...I certainly will.
