If you don't wanna do the ride, be at Mary's about 9:15ish.  You order Oatmeal Supreme, not just Oatmeal. Be sure to say "Supreme." There's a difference.

Rain now, turning to sleet soon with snow right after that.  I'm packed (on the trailer) with the intent to head south and stay ahead of the cold front.  Leaving ASAP, Daytona bound!

I'm out.  ::( Yesterday they scheduled me for back surgery on the 17th and that's the good news and all the s++t going wrong with me is fixable.  ;D  ;-T  ;D    Now I'm starting to display systems that may require neck surgery and neck surgery has priority over lower back surgery.  :pop I scheduled for an MRI on Thursday.  I almost said "sorry, I'm going to Martins for lunch on Thursday" almost.  ;D Marion also indicated that since we couldn't take a motorcycle she was all that interested in going.  The Miata just doesn't do it for her.  ::)  So, if everything goes right the ride to Gander, NL will still be possable and I hope to see most of you at the National.  We will be thinking of you'll and have a   for me.

So sorry to hear, Matt.  I hope all goes well for you.

I didn't know you had planned a trip to NL.  I've been there many times and it's fantastic. Gander is the site (I am sure you know) of the huge military airbase. A big motorcycle rally is held there every year too.

If you email, maybe I can give you some suggestions on scenic routes etc on the island. I used to go there once or twice a year.

Thanks.  Should know in about a month. Been to the air port quit a few times but never was able to get out and about. I'm told my Dad family came from Gander and Daughter in-law was born in Corner Brook.  My first attempt, by motorcycle, was 1986 by going up the northern side of the St. Laurence. Didn't quit work and ran out of time.  Latest attempt was last Fall. This time via NS and the ferry, or that was the plan. Son in-law and I made it to ST. John, NB but, once again, ran out of time.  WE could have done but it would have been petal to the metal all the way so we agreed we would return in the spring.  This crap appeared to come on right after Swamp Scooters but looking back the first signs appeared last summer when it was becoming harder and harder to get my leg over my motorcycles. Also, about the same time, standing on one leg to put on my over pants was becoming quite difficult.

My primary care guy call all this stuff "mechanical" so that makes it's repairable.  They are going to remove one disk from my lower back and replace it with plastic.  Going to take, according to my  drinking buddies, about 1/2 hour.  "Like driving a car, a million things could go wrong but seldom do".   ::)

Newfoundland is one most beautiful places to tour that I've been.  The scenery is spectacular and the people are the most genuine and friendly on earth.

I've been all over.  Corner Brook is on the west end and Gander is in the middle. There's a big memorial in Gander to mark the crash years ago of a US military plane full of serviceman who died.

Be aware that the natives pronounce it Nu-fun-land' with emphasis on that last syllable.

Hope we make it.  That was an FBM Submarine crew in the plane that crashed.  :( If I remember correctly, I was on patrol at the time and only learned about it after we got back.

Well, the weather across the florida panhandle is not good. We had rain yesterday and we are getting it today. Looks like it is moving east all week.

The burning candle that draws me to Bike Week is beginning to dim!  I don't know if I'm in the mood to ride in the rain all day to get there.

The forecast here looks pretty good all week. I'm going to try to get up there Thursday for lunch at Flagler Beach.

If the weather is nice Sat. the DW and I will ride over from the lake place in Ocala NF. Ride Tamoka Trail first then back road it to Sapparo's on Sea Breeze for a sushi lunch. Then back road it to Guzzi Central off Main St. for the gala afternoon festivities.

Hope to See Ya There.

Ok.

We will need a headcount for the oatmeal ride when we meet at Martins. The cafe is small.

I'll be heading down to the speedway around 8 tomorrow morning for the demo rides, if anyone from here will be down there. The guzzi is down awaiting a couple parts so I'll be on my Honda.

Sorry I didn't make lunch, but I spent too much time at the MG/Aprilia tent. 11 new MG's on display with several iterations of the V7 II, 3-Cal 1400's, Norge, etc. Also some great new helmets including  MG modulars, with built in Bluetooth, leather covered MG helmets and some new lightweight models meant to go with the V7 ll. The also had a nice catalogs with the complete line and accessories. I tHink their parent company has been a good influence ;)

glad to see Guzzi getting involved in the test rides.  Perhaps we'll see them in Austin at Moto GP?

Am guessing the Eldo was display and not a rider?

Correct the Eldo is on display only.
For the demo rides they have about 11 California's and 2 V7's.

How would we know who they are ??? Do they carry i.d.? ;) The Aprilia/MG tent was on the far end of the track quote a ways from H-D.

I rode my CalVin up to Daytona. After getting off it and sitting on the 1400 Touring, it seemed enormous! Deninitely not for me. Now the Dark Rider and Dapper, they were very cool!

I rode a 1400 Custom back-to-back with my EV when the new Cali came out.  Sure, the new bike is longer and heavier than the bike it replaces.  It's also a much better cruising, touring and two-up machine than its predecessor, so that extra mass is not superfluous.  The added length makes for a much less crowded cockpit, the bike is actually narrower in the middle, so straddling it is easier, and the added weight is countered by better balance, power, and control.  Try it; you'll like it.

Very sorry to miss Bike Week this year; life got in the way.  Hope to see everyone there next year!

Good answer.
I was pleased with the way it rode and felt.
I'm a little cautious about a 700+ lb bike but if I wasn't so attached to my 03 EVT I would strongly consider the touring as a replacement.

Ahh, the Cali 1400 Touring- I had no idea that bike was that good until I rode it. I am not a fan of large bikes but riding the 1400 has caused a paradigm shift. I could seriously live long term with the 1400. It is easy for me to run out of superlatives attempting to describe this bike. It feels light when I needed it to feel light and planted when I needed it to feel planted. It handled very well and has great power. It is slightly lumpy at idle and smoothed right out when the throttle is blipped. It is comfortable, fun to ride and no work at all in traffic. My brother, who owns ten motorcycles including a Harley classic declared it the most comfortable bike he has ridden. I rode the touring twice and the custom once. Prefer the touring. I don't care what you have going on, if you are in Daytona this weekend get thee to the Guzzi tent and ride the sum'biz. You owe it to yourself.
One additional thing- Piaggio/Guzzi is very generous with the demo rides. They cover a nice route with a variety of riding scenarios and last a good 30-45 minutes depending on traffic.

Yes, I rode it twice. It was fine and well balanced once out on the road. But for me, just to heavy and bulky for every day use.
