V11 Alternator

I need to replace the timing cover gasket. The Mille uses a short push pin to remove the rotor but the V11 manual has a simple remove the nut and washer procedure. Any one done this operation on a V11?

Confused, don't you have a Bosch alternator? that uses the tool (MGcycle). the V11 has a Ducati alternator and uses woodruff key on the shaft with a nut keeper.

Just take off the nut. No need for the tool to help remove it like the older systems.

And.. store the two pieces together so the magnet doesn't lose it's ju ju is what I've read on here..

AND DON'T LOOSE THE LITTLE KEY!  This should be a permanent magnet alternator, which (as noted previously) is not a tapered fit, just remove the nut and pull the rotor.  That key does have a way of wandering off, so keep track of it and you will be fine.  Oh, and I'm usually the one harping on about the permanent magnets needing the "keeper" effect.  If you're just doing an R&R on the gasket no problem but if it's going to be stored for a few days slide the rotor back inside the stator to keep it snug, warm, and happy.

And replace the O-ring seal.  Since you have the timing cover off, you will surely replace the shaft seal in the cover.  But, secretly, there is also an o-ring inside the central bushing that supports the rotor.  The bushing pulls off by hand.  Peer down inside and you will see the o-ring.  You can do all the other work and then it will still puke oil past the old, hard o-ring.  The OD seal is shown on the parts page with the timing chest cover.  The ID o-ring is shown on the page with the alternator.  See here:

You can do all the other work and then it will still puke oil past the old, hard o-ring.

It happens.  I lost mine several years ago -- there's no getting it back.  All I can attract now is flies.
