I've been thinking of when I first joined Wildguzzi in 2006.
Some of those dudes were OK. Thylardgawd was there of course. But we had some other great characters like Panhandle and SantaFe Rider[a bit of a pain but I liked his travel kit which consisted of a credit card, a cellphone and a revolver.]Said he had a restaurant that was destroyed by some Hurricane and was rebuilding his life.
There was some guy from Canada called Running Free or something who had quite a bitter ongoing fight with Nick from PRC just before he started Illuminati.
And there was that writer bloke who used a Bob Marley photo with his stage name, I just can't think of his avatar name, but I did ask Greg Field who he was and all I got was he is alive and well and Greg has dinner with him sometimes. Wrote some interesting short stories about cruising on his Guzzi and some place that was like an archetypal bikie hell hole with people who may have been already dead, I think.

Any memories in yer braincells remaining guys? I know some of you who did the Rolling Crows go back awhile longer if any are still here.
But as the internet is so impermanent as we all are, we need some remembrances to keep the stories alive.

santaferider is alive and well in Santa Fe.  Hurricane Hugo took his restaurant in Charleston in 1989, and after decades of living in the Carribean and on The East Coast of the USA, he and his wife decided to relocate to the interior.  He's Argentinian, so I think that the old Spanish vibe in Santa Fe appealed to him.

He had a low-speed fall on his V11 LeMans and injured his knee about eight or nine years ago.  It took a couple years to recover, and he sold the LeMans due to the knee angle.  Now in his mid-70s, santaferider still owns and rides an R1100RT and a Ducati ST3.

I have visited he and his wife in Santa Fe several times.  Great guy and a real motorcycle enthusiast.

Yes, Enzo.  Was he the one (or perhaps another name he was under) that had a binge session with Colt 45 and the like in a hotel room?  Wow, was that a thread.  I remember all those guys stated.  Been here since '04 when buying two B750's.

Always strange to me to come across people who are incapable of using or exposing their real names on Internet sites.

I always use mine; makes me accountable for what I say.   People who hide behind multiple aliases generally do it so that they can say any nasty or insulting thing they want, and not have to be responsible for it .....

For the "good guys", even if they use a "screen name", we all know what their real names are .....

James Nelson, aka Texas Redneck was responsible for a bunch of the fake personas we used to have.  Most of them were hilarious.

He was a really funny guy, who I had the pleasure of meeting in 2008 at the Italy Texas rally.

Sadly, he died a few years ago...

Now that you mention it, as long as it's done for fun and games, a "fake persona" CAN be a useful thing.

I'm one to talk, eh?    ;)

Yes.  He was the rare exception, though.  His characters were great comic relief.

We have had several (now banned) members over the years who did not use their multiple screen names for fun, and once outted they were sent packing...

Oddly enough, I first found out about WG at a Ural fest in northern Indiana in 02.  A few of the guys also had Guzzis.
I began coming to the site not long after, then began going to Elkadar, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, and Luaps a couple of times
before I moved back to the west coast in 05 stopping for the weekend at Deep forest along the way.  I then began haunting
campouts in Washington and Oregon until a bad crash with a deer in 09.  After a year of bad medical experiences I moved to this island
where I will probably stay until I take the last ride.  WG has been a good experience for me, helping keep my sanity through times of great stress
and pain.  Tom is about the only member I still see personally but he ranks as one of the best people I have known.

I don't know about the "real world" thing, though.   Sometimes it's like a parallel universe.

I've had three Illuminati tough-boys, one of whom I knew his real name and two of whom were just screen names, personally commit to kick my ass, fatten my lip, or punch my nose for me in "Internet World", but in the real world of meeting people at rallies and riding Guzzis, it doesn't seem to have ever happened ....  or if it did, they were real gentle about it and didn't wake me up.

There's nobody on this list I wouldn't at least be interested to meet if I haven't already ... Maybe we'll have a good crowd of Guzzisti Sunday at Raleigh?

I'm new here, but I'm reminded of a guy (on a completely different forum) who told me to get on a plane and fly to Canada and he'd kick my ass. Didn't even offer to go halves on the ticket.

Another time I came home to a stranger on my answering machine, complaining that I'd changed my message but he knew I was there, and why wasn't I picking up? He'd called a couple of times, and sounded impatient, so I called him to confirm he had the wrong number. His response ? " Aw hell, you're the same guy that was at that other number. Why don't you come over here so I can kick your ass? "

I really should have asked him for detailed directions, and what kind of beer he wanted me to bring, but I figured I should leave well enough alone.

No one was more entertaining than Panhead.  I understand that it was a sad story but I loved all the crap he stirred up here.

I met Wayne and Vicky at their first "campout" in Sept. of 2006.  Still drinking his wine and listening to him tell me all of the things I'm doing wrong.

And we even know Muley's real name too!

Met Hubert a couple of times.   He would ride 500 miles to a rally or gathering, stay 20 minutes, then leave.    Interesting guy, as far as I could tell from 15 minutes talk with him!

You're not going to find many.   Who would make that up for a screen name?

Like I said, I have no issue with screen names as long as they aren't used as a vehicle and smokescreen for cowardly abuse.   Seen that happen too often.

You seem very frightened by screen names.

Not frightened at all.  Just noting that on almost every forum I've been on, the people who ARE frightened of exposing their real names tend to be obnoxious insulting SOBs, not because they mean what they say, but because they know that they'll never have to account for it.

How's come, these days, if you don't like something it means you're "frightened" of it?   Frightened, 'phobe, and "hater" are all starting to sound like "I want you to shut up so I'll call you a name" ...

Wait, wait, wait.   This doesn't make any sense.   You and I have over 32,000 posts on this board, which gives us a moral responsibility not to make things any worse than necessary; and I can't remember the last time there was any point in my responding to one of your posts.

So I just won't, any more.   I'll still read your posts, because all of them are well-written, most are informative, and many of them are interesting.   But when I don't respond, it doesn't mean that:

1) I'm ignoring you or
2) I agree with you or
3) I don't agree with you or
4) I've been "spanked" and have gone to a corner to cry or
5) I'm off to therapy or
6) I'm happy.

It just means that I'm not responding.   But I don't want to hinder the free expression of opinion, so you consult your own convenience when making sure the Board knows what you think about my posts.

Don't know when WG started but I joined early 2004 when I got my '03 Breva. Yeah, I've learnt a bit too Chuck.

I remember all those names (and a few of their rant's ;D)  "He that shall not be named" had at least four personas that I think I recognised the individual from.

NorCal Randy was one that springs to mind. Could be a bit of a curmudgeon sometimes if his meds were off. Had a plate in his head if I remember right.  actually learnt a lot from him.

Zerk Phytting was a dab hand at Photoshop. Some of his creations were hilarious.

Don't know what caused the departure of Santa Fe but I modified a few of the dishes I cook after his creations.

An edit ps... For Lannis  ;) :D  As my name is Murray and am called that my many of my friends I am not really hiding behind a screen name. ;D
