May SWVA Guzzi BBQ - Open Invite
« on: April 11, 2015, 07:12:40 PM »
Hey everyone,

The SWVA Guzzi group meets every third Saturday of the month for a lunch, and on May 16 I have offered to host at my house and cook up some BBQ. Making BBQ is a favorite hobby of mine, and I'm not half bad at it. I wanted to extend the invite to anyone on this forum who is close enough to consider coming.

My address is 1160 Grubby Road in Halifax, VA. GPS units usually take you about a half mile too short, but I will make sure Guzzi riders will recognize the place.  ;) If you are even considering coming, please give me a heads up. I want to make sure I get enough food cooking!

I have two pork shoulders rubbed and ready, a beef tri tip and a turkey breast for this weekend. Should be a good time!

You're making me feel REALLY bad that Fay and I are going to be down in North Carolina on the Norton this weekend, riding around NC and Tennessee.

That looks GREAT!   I know that whoever comes is going to have a good time.   That's worth riding some distance to participate.

Thanks for doing this for the Guzzi folk ....   ;-T

Looking good. Awful tempting even from Louisiana.  Nice looking homestead.  Did the renovations yourself?

We are actually renting. Will consider buying if my job becomes stable. I finished the decorating for the BBQ just now...

I was out of state and couldn't make it, but told my son about it so he rode to my house from Richmond on his Kawasaki, nicked my Stelvio out of my garage, and rode down.

He said he had a great time and great barbeque, and glad to meet with the Guzzi folks and the Knapp clan.

Took my bike back home, got back on his Kawasaki, got a little "sporty" on a back road headed toward home, and lowsided in a right hand turn ... Was wearing the gear, so no damage except to his knee which lost a chunk of meat, and road rash on his side where the armored jacket slid up; didn't go to the hospital, his wife is a nurse so she picked the chipseal out of the abrasions with tweezers ....

Two good things:  1) He waited until he was on HIS bike and not mine to seek his traction limits  2) He's looking for armored pants that attach to the jacket now.    Pain is a good teacher ... !

Wow, I'm glad he is ok. It was good to meet him. It was a good day. We had about 8 from the Guzzi group show, plus some friends and neighbors. A member that I hadn't met before, Kevin D., showed up in a pickup with a project bike he's been working on for quite a while.

He custom built the bike using some Guzzi, some Harley, and many completely fabricated parts. The engine is a custom 3 cylinder that he designed using a Guzzi crank, Harley cams (IIRC), and aircraft heads. The intake and exhaust are a spider web if custom tubing. It was a sight to behold.
