2001 California EV

Local shop has a 2001 California EV on consignment.
38,600 Miles.
Hard Bags
Windshield
Owner is asking $4500. I looked it up on NADA, it shows $2850 maximum. How much do you think I should offer and not offend the owner??? Seems to be in good shape. Thanks!!

it's hard to put a price n a bike without a pic . Judging by what i see on the internet the "trend" seems that a cali EV will sell for around 3.5
Hard bags increase a little bit the value.
it depends also if the recalls, if any, were done or not and if the dealer has proof of it or not.
does it need anything ? brakes,tires , clutch, was the speedo replaced ?
Try to use the search function of this forum , you will find a lot of threads in regards of EV recalls etc.

If it was me and i really liked the bike i would start with an offer of 3.5  and i will not go higher than 4 . ( i believe they will have hard time selling it at 4.5 )

As you can see prices are all over the place, but if we see these bikes for sale, means there are no buyers.... so maybe the asking price is too high ?

No recalls on '01 models , maybe the most reliable fuel injected Guzzi ever . $3500.00 sounfs good .

There was a recall for the rear wheel.  Minor issue that was more prominent in the earlier tubeless wirewheels ('98 to '00 models).

$3500 final price sounds fair for a fairly stock bike with bags and a windshield.

2001 is the best of the best. if it's red and  white (only for 20011) I would pay up to the asking price any other color up to $4000 if perfect. check the rear wheel while in geaR FOR PLAY. too much could be worn drive gar the only issue with 2001. if you don't want it let me know. depending on location I might.

Oops , forgot about the tubeless wheels . Still , this generation of Guzzzi was well sorted .

When I had the recall done, the dealer service manager told me that he hadn't seen any issues with the '01s.  I agree about that generation being well-sorted.  Mine served me well for more than 13 years and carried me coast to coast a couple of times with zero problems.  The only real issue I had was that the initial set up could have been better.  That got fixed after Jim Barron opened his Guzzi shop and clear sailing after that.

I'd still have my EV if I wasn't into codgerhood and looking for smaller and lighter bikes :)

If it is in good condition and needs nothing in the way of repairs or soon-to-be maintenance, a $3,500 offer is fair and $4K or less is a good deal for buyer and seller.

NADA and KBB are notoriously inaccurate for Moto Guzzis.  Mainly because of the low numbers of them which makes it hard to establish a market.

If it's really nice, $3500 +/-

We're talking nickels and dimes, here.  What's a few hundred between Guzzisti?  Not much.

    I agree with others that the 01 EV is the best model year. I bought mine with 70K and now has 97K. I paid $3500 which included the matching trunk and Swanee fairing. Another $400 for a used set of Wilburs shocks was money well spent. Mine also came with a full Bub exhaust. I rode mine from Florida to the National Rally in Ontario a couple of years ago. Very enjoyable ride.

The mount doesn't look like the mount on the Rifle I had on my EV.  Similar style, though.  I think MG had an OEM screen in that style back then; this could be one of those.

And my advice for anyone who mounts a similar windshield is to also get a set of Rifle lowers to help reduce buffeting.  Made a huge difference on my EV.

Visually, there is little difference.

The early 1998s had a red oval with "V11" on the side cover.

Looks real nice. I have a 2001 EV in red and white. Great bike. Never regretted owning it. I bought it as a leftover in 2002. I always have several other bikes but the EV is dear to me. Mine has been through ALOT it is not as nice as the one pictured and I would have a hard time letting mine go  for that money. It just works too well.  Good Luck

01 has a relocated, smaller size faster computer than earlier models. much better. fuel lines are different and better.

Yes....this seat is made to fit the P8 box.

The corbin seat on my 03 ev is for a 98 ev fit is good hold down (latch) is different

The one bitch I have about my 98 is how the seat flops around if you take the pillion off.

Inquire if the cluth is original. I bought my EV at 40k miles and it needed a new clutch. No sure what a dealer would charge but it literally means tearing the bike half apart.
