Knee wear - over jeans, with tall boots ?
« on: April 14, 2015, 02:56:03 PM »
Even though it's beautiful riding weather out here right now (low fifties in the morning, perhaps eighty in the afternoon)

(Sorry, my snowed-in brethren, I had to set the scene...)

I still find myself sitting in meetings rubbing my knees for a few hours after arrival at work. I'm almost sixty, so some level of discomfort of my well-used knees is to be expected, but it seems as though armor would help.

Do any of you have a brand of armor you can recommend ? I have scouted, but it all appears to be aimed at guys wearing short boots, guys wearing specialty jeans with knee pockets, or the motocross market.

Thanks all
Norman
That's the combustion chamber of the turbo shaft. It is supposed to be on fire. You just don't usually see it but the case and fairing fell off.

I've got a couple of pairs of Velcro strap retained knee/shin armor from Alpinestar that was reasonably inexpensive and can be worn over or under jeans or riding pants.

There's always these.  or perhaps a set of baseball-related knee pads - what about those things catchers and/or umpires wear?

I have a pair of cricket leg pads that I wear on cold mornings - they cover from ankle to just above the knee, and vecro on over my pants' legs, but they're somewhat of a pain as they don't really compress enough to cram into my top case.  But then, I'm a big bloke (6'2"), so if you're not as tall as I am, then perhaps a smaller set would work for you.

I had similar issues when I lived in cooler climes.
Where I live now it generally heat and humidity that is the issue.
I now wear these;

Probably available at the nearest BMW motorcycle dealer.

These will go over the top of your boots, knee armour does a good job of keeping cold and short rain showers off your knees.
No doubt there will be other manufactures in the US that make something similar.

Cheers

Pete (no not the Bungendore one)

The Draggin Jeans kevlar is thick enough to provide some cold weather protection.  You can add some knee pads to the inside with velcro if you want more.  My commute is only 30 min so I am ok unless it drops below 30 (I'm only 62 though :)  ).

These are the ones I got, for under $30 a pair:

I probably got them from NewEnough...but they seem to be out of production - although they have similar stuff

Wot's wrong with chaps?  It's not gay if you wear them over jeans.  Gay folk wear them with nothing else.

Having said that, I haven't worn mine in years.  The stigma .....

And I'm not homophobic!
