endless storms, ugh
« on: April 16, 2015, 06:00:44 PM »
All,

Houston is in an endless storms rain pattern.  Huge nasty stuff was lots of fun on the commute home.  Lightning and torrential rains and winds.  SW of us right now is a cell with a tornado on the ground, moving rapidly NE thru Matagorda County.  Looks like it won't hit us though, and even hail.

Sheesh, give us a break...backyard is a swamp.  I want to ride the Guzzi this weekend...

Been raining here all week too.  Not a problem for me though; I had my knee scoped last week so I can't ride anyway.

I feel like I'm living on another planet from you guys.   Just gentle gray spring rain interspersed with sunshine and breezes, just t'way it 'posed to be.

We've had a winter storm in progress since mid-last-week.  It's getting old.

Buuuuuut . . .  if you folks get a hole in the clouds tonight, look up.  Northern lights are going nuts.  I probably won't be seeing any.   :'(

The rain shine here has been almost every day for a while.  That's when my umbrella casts a well defined shadow while the water pours off of it.

At least we are not having any hurry canes,   yet.

Or you could be in (far too) sunny California where rain seems to be a myth and nothing will be coming out of the faucet by late summer…

Little poodle had to put on his thundershirt....cou ld be a frustrating weekend.  I will wear the Aerostich if I venture out, but I do not like the lightning hits or 60 mph winds when on a bike...its been a wet and turbulent spring....stars out this morning, but it won't last.

More apocalypse tonight:  system coming from W to E colliding with system coming SW to NE.  Little poodle not happy.

Chance of riding motorcycle is low....will try and sneak one in sometime Saturday or Sunday.  Sheesh...can we send this to California please?

Between the heavy equipment in the neighborhood bouncing my house like a freaking continuous earthquake and the ongoing storm, my roof has come unhinged.  About 3:30AM the bedroom ceiling lost bladder control.  I went up top to check out the source this morning and found popped and missing screws all over.  It's one of those flat-corrugated metal roofs.  I'm going to have to remove the rest of the screws and lay another layer of tin over about 20' of it.

I hate it when that happens.

Weather permitting...a few of us might be riding Sunday as well...but this time towards the south perhaps to San Luis Pass and then for lunch at the Strand, as the MS 150 will be well under way from La Grange onwards and we'll probably avoid those roads this weekend.  Dark, angry clouds...but glad we are getting rain to ease any drought worries!  If only California would get some of it!

Cali will be getting some of ours.  It's at the point that it pays to outfit tankers with bladders and bulk ship Sitka water south.  The paper says the company trying it signed up for up to 9billion gallons/year.  Not sure how you fit that in a boat, but they're supposed to begin shipping this year.

All,

Street flooded when came home from dinner, draining now.  Big maple tree branch broke and hit corner of wooden patio cover, fortunately no damage.  Will have maple taken out before hurricane season. Sawzall will butcher the branch.  Thousands of lightning strikes....60 mph winds...oh boy.

Hope to ride Saturday and Sunday, but will wear the Aerostich leathers.  Hope to get Trumpet into dealer tomorrow morning for first maintenance...but now since I have two bikes...who cares it takes a few days to get it back.

Sheesh on a huge storm.  Glad there were no tornadoes.  Pix tomorrow..

Probably somewhere in Sugarland this time, but it will be a new meeting point for me, so I will have to get coordinates from my other riding buddy.  Usually around 930 am is the idea, with a 3-4 hour ride planned...weather permitting and with hopefully no tree damage  to take care of.  The neighbor around the corner had a huge piece of his oak tree fall into the street, so here's to hoping we have none of that activity tonight!

Man don't talk to me about storms. Up here in the Pacific Northwest the weather is brutal.

Today it was 73 degrees and sunny. That trend is supposed to continue until next Tuesday or Wednesday. Monday the temp may reach 80.

OH THE HUMANITY!!!!

I am being forced to do a 250 mile ride on Sunday.

When will it end.

:+1  Most definitely...better to be a bit soggy for a bit than have a drought.  I grew up in California and at one point, people were painting their lawns green as the years went by in severe drought conditions.  Seems like today's drought is even worse than back then!  Cautiously optimistic a fun ride can be had tomorrow...conditio ns were bad enough for rain that they cancelled the MS 150 bike ride from Houston to La Grange (home of ZZ Top) and then on to Austin.

Sarah Palin had the hedge and bushes around the Alaska gov's mansion painted green.  Nobody is sure why.  Wasn't on account of any drought.   ::)

930 AM tomorrow morning at the Starbucks at the intersection of 59 and Grand Parkway.  If  you get there before I do, look for a White Norge (Claudio), and I'll be there on my Silver Norge.  Should be nice weather for a ride to the coast!  See you there if you are free.

PJP,

Its a possible....storms appear to be bouncing around randomly...we got grazed with a bit more this afternoon. If I come, I will be there before 9:30 waiting for you...how far you going?  Any time you think you will be back?  Ms. LD has plans for me...

:)  We are completely flexible on where to ride and for how long, it's more for the fun, camaraderie and time permitting a bit of nosh, so we can do a route that gets you back in time.  If you have a route you like which fits your time schedule, we're totally open to that.  I have a fair amount of free time tomorrow so I can always ride a bit more afterwards!

Southern California is so low on water, they are saying we may be out by early next year. William Shatner has started a fundraising campaign on the interneck to raise $30 billion to build a pipeline to reach the water up north before the 5th biggest economy goes belly up. In my part of SoCal, Orange County, lawns are brown or have "native, drought tolerant" plants....  80% of our water is used for agriculture and that will be hit very hard. In the stores by me, tomatoes are $3.99lb and apples are the same. It sucks... Almonds will be cut off first as they use too much water... damn, I liked almonds... Send us your water :o

Raining back to back is getting a little old.  I finally got the whole yard mowed, well 90% of it, still some low spots.  I only got the mower stuck 3 times.

On our walk the other morning, a neighbor was waiting for a friend with a chain and truck to pull his riding mower out of the ditch.  Looking over the yards, you can see the muddy tracks where they quit mowing.  LOL
