gotta love 80mph

Yep, I know it's only a little increase but 80MPH on SD interstate highways really seems to make a huge difference.  Cruising at 84mph seems to be a great safe speed that everyone is apparantly able to handle just fine. 

I just wish they would kick it up to the century mark..   ::)

And now that diesel fuel is cheaper :)  When it was higher in price I'd drive the truck at 70 and gain 5mpg vs 85mph.

SD and ND both have too much ag. equipment and other vehicles that use the freeway where a higher limit would be very dangerous. Plus, there are too many people that simply should not be on the road driving, texting, yakking on the phone - to do so at 100mph scares the bajeebers out of me.  :BEER:

Out here the police are on a revenue gathering safety blitz. If you are doing 4kph over the 100kph you will get pinged and get demerit points. You may even get one with less margin as it is "zero tolerance".

Sadly, the lil' Breva just sings at 80mph.  On the open road I usually sit behind a cage and only pass when I see a hill approaching.

The ag equipment doesn't use the freeway, they stick to state and county highways.  There is a minimum speed on the freeway that they can't meet.

I figure the new 80mph will keep the Harley Davidson boys off the Interstate. I mean with about 40 miles between exits not many H.D's. can run 80 mph to the next exit ramp.http ;D

Not true, just the other day I saw a Fat Bob pasted to the grill of a Peterbilt that had to be going 90 and looked like it had run nonstop up from LA. ;D

80 mph is only 128kph. I usually run about 140kph /87mph on the autobahn. In the open areas, 180kph/115mph is the norm.

Hasn't made much difference, as the SD troopers have decided to do "zero tolerance" of the 80 MPH limit vs. the 75 +5 MPH tolerance given before. The real safety issue is with the big trucks, as the 80 MPH limit applies to them too... I've seen a hundred foot long 20 axle double trailer gravel "train" run 80 MPH on I-29 in 90 degree weather, most big truck tires are only rated for 65 to 70 MPH.

That's very true, actually I would rather have the speed limit on the open desert roads raised to 70 from 55 so I didn't have to rely on my radar detector while riding out in the middle of nowhere only to have it go crazy and find a CHP hiding behind a cactus looking for hardened criminals going 70.

I would happily ride at the century.  My Norge loves that speed, and for some reason at 95mph the bike gets unearthly quiet, at that speed I swear I can hear the tappets and the tires.  Fuel economy doesn't seem to be any different at 100 than it does at 85.
