93 1000S
« on: April 17, 2015, 06:57:09 PM »
I am the owner of a 93 1000S VIN 250023, #23 of 84 built in 1993. Green (of course). I know that it's a desirable and rare bike. I'm considering selling it. It is in very good condition. About 25K miles.  It has original paint, wire rims, seat, etc. only modifications are "old style" tail light and blinkers (have originals) and Conti replicas and (I do not have the original mufflers). Runs and sounds great!
I guess that I'm inquiring what the current value is on this bike as well as the best way to market this bike should I decide to sell it. I haven't seen any current sales of any 1000S' in a few years.

Hey Lauri,
Out of town right now, but will post picture when I figure out how. I saw your very similar bike on the informal registry thread.

Thanks,

Pat

P.S. Hey 'fotoguzzi' consider it sold. Meet me behind the turnip truck.

Yep.  A nice 1000S will bring $9,000 to $12,000 in the USA.  Several have sold in that price range over the past few years.

Best thing to do for top dollar would be Ebay, so you'd get the widest audience.

Lots of info and lots of GOOD pictures on the auction page will help with the price.

I'm in for 9K delivered to my door if it checks out.

However there is also a supposed very clean LM1 coming up very locally up for sale.

I would too.  A decent low mileage red one (LM 1) just sold for over $16K on eBay.

In the end I hope either bike doesn't meet my expectation and somebody else offers crazy amounts of money for them  or they exceed my expectations and someone else offers crazy amounts of money for them. I really don't need or want another bike but I can't help myself.

Funny, I was thinking the exact same thing, no pictures, doesn't know what it's worth, but is probably willing to argue that any offer is to low.

If its for sale then post it with pictures in the For Sale section and move this post off General Discussion.

I'm totally fine with the Mayor of BBQ's and some of the other snotty comments. I didn't start this thread to sell my 'S'. If it was a classified ad, I would have added pictures, location, and price. How can I put a price on something if I really don't know a ballpark figure to ask? THAT'S WHY I WENT TO A DISCUSSION GROUP! I'm not sure if "The Mayor" and others have realized it or not, but there haven't been very many 1000S' for sale lately and I'm trying to get an approximate value. I really thought this discussion group would be the group to ask. Sorry, my mistake. I can't go to a NADA guide and get a real value. I was just in need of some guidance. I realize that I came to the wrong place for a discussion about this Moto Guzzi. For the people that DID give me some guidance, Thank You, I really appreciate it. I think that I have my answer. Thank you everyone else for your "2 cents". Consider this thread closed.

I think the first two snotty comments in the topic went something like these:

[snippity]
P.S. Hey 'fotoguzzi' consider it sold. Meet me behind the turnip truck.

I recommend that you take the LM1. Otherwise you will miss both bikes.

Pat

Up to that point all the comments looked like sincere enthusiasm.  But like you said, it's a rare and old bike.  That brings up a lot of legitimate questions in a discussion group.  If you don't participate in your own topic with basic things like responsive answers and pictures, how productive can you expect it to be?

If my comments were "snotty", I apologize. I wasn't expecting to be "lowballed" and "pressured" into trying to sell my bike to opportunists. I was
trying to get information. I really am sorry for my reaction.

Too bad you are done with this thread. I think the 1000s is maybe the best looking Guzzi's ever. Surely top 1-3 Tonti's. Mayor's comments were not snotty. You wanted a reasonable price then put along with the other essentials a few  :PICS!:   :PICS!: are absolutely mandatory.  Really a rat Green 1000s would be could be worth $5K whereas a concours could push $12k. Too bad I was looking forward to some pics. I absolutely  :drool over this bike. Test road a big valve Green monster in the early 90's and if I had known then what I know now, how to change ergonomics I would have jumped on it. But my 6'5' frame and very tight muscles and lack of overall flexibility after 30 minutes on it said no.

If you are not familiar with this group there are always a couple of smart snarky non serious guys out there just screwing around. I doubt anybody was lowballing you.
Someone offered you sight unseen $6K for it. Well without a picture I sure wouldn't offer more than that. Just sayin. This is a descent crowd. Unless I am a bit naive I have not seen that kind of stuff going on here. Not a lot of guy just join and drop in with rare low mileage sought after Guzzi's without at least putting up more info.
So how about a pic so I can  :drool
