V11 Sport Battery Replacement
« on: April 18, 2015, 08:30:38 PM »
I've a 2004 V11 Sport Ballabio and need to replace the battery--currently have an Odyssey.  Would prefer a AGM battery that can be maintianed over the winter months using a standard Battery Tender.  The Odyssey requires a unique charger.  Any suggestions?   Thanks!

Ive got the odyssey in mine and I just use the maintainer.  Its a generic brand battery tender.  Works fine

I have two V11 sports with Odysseys, and never maintain them. The Scura has sat in California for as long as 10 months and started right up. Just sayin..

I've had Odysseys, and battery tenders work just fine on them. Great batteries.

I have 10 years on my odyssey battery in my Cal SS and use a battery tender on it. I have let it sit for many months and it fired right up before I put on the battery tender.

Thanks for your replies.  No complaints about the odyssey, on my second one.  It's just my MG sits for six months due to weather (snow) and by spring I find the odyssey at 12V, about 65% discharged according to the battery specs; plus Battery Tender (brand) chargers, which I use to maintain the batteries on my two other bikes, won't work on odysseys. Honest.  Kind of like to hit the road on my first ride of the year on a fullly charged battery.  I could top it off with my generic auto battery charger, but it charges at 16v, which according to the odyssey manual will kill the battery. I could buy an odyssey brand charger but they're $100. My world does not need to be this complicated.

There was a Westco battery in my V11 when I bought it. It was 9 years old when I changed it. No special charger needed.

I just use a 2 amp trickle charger from Wally World that was like 20 bucks.  Works like a champ

Exactomo!  Dug through the darkest recesses of my shop and unearthed a long-forgotten battery trickle charger, circa 1980, that charges at 13V and shuts off when reaching full charge.  Tried it on the odyssey and it worked.  Dilemma solved.  70 degrees and clear tomorrow, first ride of the year on the Guzzi. Finally.

All this talk about special chargers for Odyssey makes me wonder how it survives on the bike.
I have a Yuasa on my VII Sport, it can sit all winter and still crank.
