Eldorado v Ambassador v Police v 850T
« on: April 22, 2015, 10:14:18 PM »
New at this right..Bought a 73 Eldorado. its parked up in the States at a mates place, so only seen pics..However, I want to buy some parts, but get alittle confused when people start talking about fitting Eldorado / Ambassador, and then there is the Police model and some sort of 850T model....what fits what, are they all interchangable parts ( obviously not the motor re 700 v 850 ) but the rest?????????

Your Eldo is in the class of "drum brake loop frames".  The 850 and all "T" or V1000 models and newer are different frames called "tonti".  We don't do much casual swapping of parts between the two.

Police models are accessorized differently than civilian models and their frames have extra tabs and lugs welded on for police gear, like sirens.  Police loops have solo saddles, some with radio boxes, different handlebar, 'pursuit lights', and very fancy speedometers among other differences.  Most of the 'police bike' stuff you see on ebay is laughably bogus or the same thing that would have been on a civilian model.

Within the loops there are many variances in things like toolboxes, color and trim that don't really matter, but there are major things like 4spd/5spd transmissions, drum or disk brake front ends, timing chains v timing gears, and fuel tank sizes that could matter.

I'll let the loop guys get into details.  The '73 is considered a good rig.

 . ..  and how 'casual' was it for you?   ;D

I've had loop fenders and seat on a Tonti and a T transmission in a loop.  It can be done.  but it's just mean if we tell a noobie it's all interchangeable.   ~;
