ODYSSEY battery search
« on: April 29, 2015, 05:05:14 PM »
I would like to buy a ODYSSEY battery  for my 2001 California Special. Doe any one know which model would  best fit on this specific bike? I mean is there one that would fit the space the best? Any help would be great

Pretty sure they can tell you. They did for a '80 cx100, 83 LMIII and a 06 Tiger <shrug>

The new batt was 1/2 the size, Harper's had a hold down bracket that works well. I use the extra space for a little compressor and tire plug kit.

By the way, you're old battery tender is not effective with the ODYSSEY, but you probably won't need it, I've had really good luck with'em. The CX pretty much sat in a cold garage all winter and fired right up.

I believe the 925 is what they recommend but I had a PC545 (size for the V11 sports) in my 01 cal special. Takes up less space/weight and plenty of cranking power for the Valeo starter. You do have to work up some other kind of strap though.

Contact Harper's, I put an Odyssey 680 in my son's '02 EV and it works fine.

Guzzistajohn are you sure the Battery tender will not work? I have one hooked on my other bike with a  ODYSSEY battery?

Not according to my buds @ Batteries plus, I'm a regular there, I buy a bunch of batteries there for the equipment I sell/service. Don't tell me they were just trying to sell me a charger, because they GAVE it to me :) chances are your other batt doesn't need a charge anyway. The Odyssey charger IS nice it has a test feature that gives the battery checkup as it charges.

Here's Harper's holder downer thingy on my LMIII

I like buying batteries local. if there's a warranty issue it makes for a much nicer fix.

I have to get my odyssey batteries shipped in.  I buy from Amazon.

The 680 is plenty for a valeo.  My kid's bmw R80 (bosch starter) has had a 680 in it for years.  I use a 925 in my Convert and a 1200 in the trike.  I don't think you can get bigger than a 925 in the standard tonti frame, and I had to toss the airbox to make it fit.

They won't ship to me at all.  I boycott any business that won't ship outside the lower 48.

Harpers recommends the 680. I have one in my 2004 Titanium and it slides right in.

I put the 545 in my Cali simply because it is the same as the batteries in the other two bikes.

I have heard lots of reports that the batter tender brands does not work.

I have a cheap Walmart 2 amp trickle charger and it works great on my Odyssey
