The fairing works excellent. One the best I have ever had on any bike.  I found that even my hands are well protected from the wind.  I did replace the stock screen with a taller Gustaffson one with a kick-up though, as  I am over 6 feet in height.

Wat JD sez. I'm properly sized (5'8") and I've never been behind a better fairing. They had a wind tunnel and knew how to use it.  ;D

let me speak the heresy, having had at least 3 or 4 SP's... They blow. lower fairings interfere with your feet and side stand and dip stick and are heavy. The upper fairing just doesn't do it for me. It is also heavy and on the forks, so it affects handling, the wind blows over the top and pushes you forward. The handlebars are a horrible bend, your wrists end up at an unatural angle, and tucked up under the fairing, so alternative bends are impossible to fit properly. But otherwise a nice bike...  8^))

I will add the early ones with Lemans style pipes and foot peg hangers are the best for me. The later "NT" new type versions even though they had nikasil cylinders, had the lower touring pipes and slightly more forward foot pegs which made the clearance to the lower fairing even worse for shoe size 12 guys like me...

Set up for warm weather. Small windshield and no lowers.  Most of my riding.


Cooler weather, about three months of the year.

Light enough to ride on the back of our Ford Explorer.

Added an SPIII fairing to my T5.



Yes, I did cut off the bottom half.  It funneled too much heat to my legs.

I had an LMII fairing on the bike before this (little brother to the SP fairing).  It worked really well, once I put a bigger windshield on it.  But, I did not like the effect of the fairing on the bars.  Truck  turbulence was a bit weird.

So, I would suggest you look for an SPIII instead, but, that's just me :)

I can relate to some of this. Was always kneecapped by the lowers even though I'm short. Shoe size 9, so I never experienced other clearance issues. But, after riding a customer's with the stock bars and peg position, I wondered how the heck I rode my '79 450+ miles in day. Oh yeah - I was 30 years younger!  ;D Another customer's SP NT was set up perfectly - bar backs with different 'bars, custom peg mounts and Corbin seat. Much more tolerable.

!st brand-new street bike I ever owned was an SPNT 1984. LOved it +1 on the fairing w/a 4" extension on top (later a taller Gustaffsen shield). Also Cast Lemans footpeg mounts w/ peg actually bolted in behind the hole where it belonged to move the peg back & down,(size 15s). Bike pictured did not have a fork brace,. (helped front end). Also mine had a set of Bub pipes w/ their Conti replica mufflers. Woke the motor up, and the sound..........musi c!

That's a pretty bike.   I've got an '83 SP-NT myself, and (especially visible in this picture), I wonder - Has ANY passenger ever said that they like that kicked-up passenger seat?    Pilot's seat, fine, but I remember that Ron and Alice K. had to give up theirs because of the seat, and I had to change the seat on mine - Fay was always sliding downhill, and the kick-up made her back ache .....

The thing is all these older Guzzis odometers only register up to 100K miles, but keep on registering over again as if the 1st 100K never happened.   If they have long mileage they will have needed a u-joint & possible clutch replacements.   Some of these have replacement mufflers.  I'd ask how long the seller has owned them for starters and get as much info. as you can on their use of them.

I have a `81 CX100 I made into a SP by putting an euro handlebar on it, Corbin seat, detachable bags & top case, euro black crashbar.  I took the lowers off as unneeded.  With my CX fairing the wind hits me just the way I want it to w/no buffeting.  Even my hands are protected.  If it rains I just hunker down a little & @ 65 mph the rain goes over the top of me.  ;D

I probably have the only other SP around that has a custom Raceco motor in it like the one on ebay. Bought it from a member last year. Mine had the 'Killer Goose' package that Manfred offered at the time. Dual plugged, 390 cam. 90mm Weisco pistons, race cam, new top end, 40mm dell orto's, lightened flywheel, timing gears, Enduralast kit, Best part is that the bike has only had 3k miles since the motor work was done so it's super fresh. I'm putting a new exhaust on it this month to get more power.
