Joe Caruso V11 steel timing gears
« on: May 20, 2015, 07:23:43 PM »
Just to let people Know Joe is producing his V11 Steel timing gears again. Contact........ joe.caruso@ntlworld.com
I have a set and can vouch for their quality, although I havent gotten around to fitting them. They are so nice seems a shame to hide them inside the engine:)
Heres an historical link.
BTW I have no commercial interest here, just supporting quality engineering.

The link you provided is all about the insanity of spending money on replacing the timing chain with aluminum gears to grenade your engine, & doesn't mention Joe Caruso or his steel timing gears in it anywhere, other than a passing mention by yours truly. While it is exciting to hear that someone might be doing a timing gear set correctly, unless you're setting up to race a Guzzi in vintage classes, it just doesn't make much sense to replace the reliable & cheap timing chain setup with something that is going to start off expensive & only stands to get moreso. BTW, any projected price on those?

You're correct but its a good read. If you need a ecconomically rational reason to spend what I seem to recall cost me $600au on a set of beautifully made steel gears that will outlast the engine probably several times over and provide consistently accurate valve timing and hopefully a nice "whine" sound when cold then I dont have one.
If on the other hand you appreciate engineering purity, elegance and the knowlege you dont need to concern youself with chain tensioners wearing/failing timing moving and some horribly crude device like a chain flapping about inside you engine then you may want to anti up for the gears.
As for making sense, well if I were sensible I wouldnt be riding a motorcycle at 56 to start with.......so I've been told on more than one occasion.
I have  2 sets, 1 for the V11 and another for the Daytona engine I'm building up.

If they were only AU$600 I wouldn't weep for the injustice of it all; the only steel gears I remember seeing for the V11 were something like US$1200/set once you converted the price from UK sterling. Ouch!
