I want a Moto Guzzi that will compete with the new BMW R1200RS

Title says it all.  I am looking to get rid of both my R1100S and my RNineT and get a single sport touring bike.  The new BMW ticks all of my boxes, but I would prefer the Guzzi big block for an engine.  What do I want?

Sport Touring ergonomics.  Forward cant bars, slight rearset pegs.

Top line suspension.  I'll pay more, lots more.  Don't make me go after market.

Lots of torque from 4k-7k where I spend most of my time.

Shaft drive.

Simple bags that come off and on easily. Black please.

1/2 fairing to smooth the wind at high speed.  I want to see the engine.  If it rains, I'll get a little wet. That's OK

I don't need a bunch of fancy ride modes and doo dads, but I would like cruise control.

Analog Tach.  Digital speedo. Big enough letters to read at a glance.

6 gallon gas tank.  Or 5.8, or 6.2.  Just give me some range.

Weight between 525 - 550lbs.

I gotta believe I'm not the only one who wants an alternative to the BMW, but at this point I see it as the only player in the game.

Please Moto Guzzi.  Take the Griso platform and go to work.

Oh, I have been doing the anti BMW thing for a while, but with all other brands.  I suspect it will be a long wait for MG to come up with something.

The closest might be the Audace and start modifying it.  Never going to get much below 700 lbs tho.

Capo Rally will be in ball park.  I like my 1190 Adv, but it is tall.  Maybe the Super Duke GT will be a lightweight, but more like a rocket with electronics to control it, similar to my 1190.

Get a Norge and take the lower fairing half off. I've seen others do that.    There is a black model.

The Sport touring craze is long past it's peak. A small company like Guzzi has to go after what is hot....or at least what they perceive to be hot. I suspect the Norge is as close as you're going to get in the Guzzi line up for many years to come. Especially if you're not willing to go aftermarket. Guzzi's are almost always lacking in some areas. Good luck with your search.

That was my first thought. JB must have sold his by now but there is a low mileage Rosso in the swap meet section, just add some HB bags and you are fairly close. And it will probably hold that value for awhile unless you do something crazy to the bike. Ohlins front and back too.

Norge not even close.  Too big, too much Tupperware.  Too touring, not enough sport.  I had the 2 valve Norge and traded it for my Stelvio after 1800 miles.  The 8 valve has the engine, but back to square one after that.

Don't want used, although some of the other offered choices are getting close..

if the deer hadn't killed your Griso would that be a candidate still? I've got the HP bags on mine and plenty of power. I have no problems running with sport bikes (a supermoto championship helps) and I put some electric grips on there  with a Stucchi quarter fairing.  An Airhawk seat gave me loads more comfort and a bit more legroom. I've had it for 6 years now and I still don't see a new  bike I'd rather have!

yeah the only thing in the class seems to be the R90T. I saw the ads and immediately thought a BMW just invented a Griso but it sounds like a farting contest.  honestly I don't get BMWs. they have continually tried to over engineer their products to the point of frustration. Anyone remember power brakes? the flat boxer engine may have the advantage and weight distribution CG but why in the hell would you want the cylinders that low makes no sense to me. I love 90 degree engines. Have always owned them V-4 v-twin name it.

Have you ever actually owned or ridden a flat twin beemer ? Pretty amazing engines . As for the low cylinders , well , the rest of the engine is that low , and they do provide a certain protection in a crash .

I never owned one but I did test ride R1200S and a GS.  I couldn't get off them fast enough!  at the risk of offending some BMW owners I always saw them as snotty bikes with uncertain craftsmanship. I'd rather root for the small manufacturer that plugs along for years and years and does what they have with the available funds. I have the capability to finish the rest :-)

Since BMW isn't making what you want, it is less likely that Moto Guzzi will.

Why so opposed to going aftermarket? You could probably have what you want in short order instead of waiting for either company to do what the other won't.

I've had 2 R1100S models and liked them both.  I have not had an R Nine T, but I enjoy it's retro styling.

I'm afraid your bike doesn't exist in the Guzzi line. 

That may change.  I think the current CARC platform is about done for.
When Guzzi migrates the 1400 motor to a new platform something like what you are looking for may develop.

But in shaft drive sport touring, BMW is pretty much the market right now.

I sure hope they don't migrate the 1400 engine over to the non-cruiser lines of bikes... I'm hearing about some problems with the stepper motors on the throttle bodies not doing what the ride-by-wire system asks it to do with some bikes.

Regarding what you want... I doubt we'll see a bike like what you're talking about coming out of guzzi.

The closest thing out there to what you want (with absolute top of the line suspension) is the most expensive version of the Ducati Multistrada with the Ohlins suspension. I agree that top of the line suspension is worth every penny, but nearly all makes ignore this when it comes to making their sport touring bikes, and even with the ducati it's only an option.

I agree that the Rosso and Nero Corsa are your only real options to seeing that come out of Guzzi.

I still keep hoping they'll come out with a V-4 engine in a bike. Basically a Motus but at a reasonable price and with shaft drive

Seems like you have a decent budget for a new bike, why not consider a unique bike?

I had the same predicament the  Sport 1200 8v did not have roller cams and has been discontinued anyway, that really left the R1200RS in the shaft drive sport tourer field. Which is probably what I would have replaced my R1100s with if it had been available in 2009.
 If you compromise on the shaft the Triumph Tiger Sport I have has a 200 mile range, awesome motor with all day ergos but sadly Triumph deemed that the American market could do without it. http://www.triumphmotorcycles.co.uk/motorcycles/tiger/2016/tiger-sport
