Friends V11 Sport finished
« on: June 13, 2015, 10:33:10 PM »
My buddy just finished up a couple year project of mounting up this fairing on his sport. He's always thought this was the cats meow of fairings for this bike and took the time to order up the raw fairing and make the mounts, etc. to make it happen. He just got all his parts back from the painter (tank, fenders. Et al) and had it done in a metallic silver which is a little lighter than the stock silver. The painter had this left over from a Vette he was painting. He's got custom FBF cans that they once made but stopped making not long ago coming soon. They said they would make him up some which is very cool of them to do. They are carbon fiber and sound very basso profundo. They are also a good 2-3" shorter. The fairing is awesome at speed he says. The air is smooth and the front end is planted feeling with this fairing. He's also lowered it most recently and likes this better as well. Here is.

Doesn't look like he's going to have much steering lock with the bars.

Most Magni-equipped bikes use clipons below the triple clamp.

Yeah, looks nice but really doesn't look set up for practical riding.  Forget about turning and leaning much.

I had FBF's on my V11.  They friggen rock!  Best sounding bike I've ever owned period.  I was beside a 916 with termies and there was no comparison.
They have awesome bass.

I also had their cross over "x" pipe.

How about a little imagination.  This setup works just fine. Must we use boundaries on everything?  This bike is set-up for riding not a garage queen. There are no steering limitations and it's comfortable.

I gotta love this quote. The use of the word "practical". This is an older gentleman's bike so you think low clip-ons are practical??

The MATRA forward controls kit was pretty popular with older d00ds wanting a V11 back when the bikes were new.

Looks good.  I do wonder about the handle bars.   :thumb:  When properly riding it.  You'll find out why the middle of the tank is padded.

Yes... I have the MATRA set-up an love it. It takes my hip and puts it neutral.  It's a bit lower also so helps the knees.  Other than that, the stock pegs aren't any sportier really.  They aren't rearsets.

Admittedly I'm curious about the fairing mount. I have a slightly modified Magni kit on my Cafe Sport, and have been looking for a way to move the clip-ons to a "less-agressive" position than under the top clamp. My kit came with a cross brace that connects the rear ends of the top of the fairing together via the steering stem top nut; it looks like it's been eliminated in this setup. With that brace out of the way it'd open up a lot of options. I'd be interested to know if any issues develop in the long run.

As it is now, I've got only a few mm of clearance between the levers and the fairing at full lock. Maybe I've got my fairing mounted further to the rear? It also looks in the photos as if the clip-ons have a rear offset to them- you wouldn't by chance know which ones they are?

Thanks!
