Chrome plating Jackal Swingarm
« on: June 14, 2015, 11:36:13 AM »
Hi guys.
Greetings from Singapore.
After some DICK knocked me off my BMW R100R and killed it,  I bought a 2001 Jackal that I'm in the process of emptying my bank account on. (Spoil those you love!) The Jackal looked pretty sad, tired and dowdy when I got it. Big ugly side bags, faded, scratched and corroded and in need of love.
I Stripped and polished the forks, triple clamp and instrument bracket, Chromed the front fender, put an extra disc up front. (Now it stops like SCARY! Twin wave blade discs, cost only $150 on ebay and theyre F##King awesome!) Also got aluminium switches, custom western bars, crash bars, relocated signals, chrome headlight, lucas replica tail light and (As soon as it's been painted candy apple red,) bellagio tank badges.

Check the progress so far.....

Anyways, I'm wanting to chrome or polish everything possible. There's some rust on the swingarm and since it needs a new coat, I was thinking, why not a coat of chrome on the swingarm? Just wondering if anyone has done it already, got photos? Is it a good idea? Are there a lot of void spaces inside that would rust to buggery after the acid/chrome treatment and if so, what can I do to prevent corrosion.

I'm expecting an insurance payout for the BMW accident soon and the money is going to paint, chrome and bling out my Jackal. I'd appreciate your thoughts, before I send the swingarm to the chromers.
Thanks in advance for your advice.

Chrome will rust and pit.

Have you considered ceramic coating with a chrome like finish? Ceramic chrome finish is not as bright as real chrome but it looks pretty darn good and I think it would be a decent option for the swing arm.

Chrome the rear fender ( or find one from a Cal3 that is polished stainless) and paint the SA with the candy apple color?

Rear fender will be chromed, no doubt. Thought about the candy red swingarm. got to do a mock up on photoshop first. see how it looks. Also painting the calipers and wheelhubs red. Polishing the shaft hub. Got to find a balance between the red and chrome/polished alloy........ What do you think?

I've seen a couple Guzzi's with chrome swing arm and didn't like the look, too flashy.. maybe keep black like the frame? polished always looks better than chrome but harder to maintain.
