I don't care what anyone says, when the outside ambient temperature is 110-115 degrees, it's frick'n HOT!!

That is what the temperatures have been in "The Valley of the Sun" ALL WEEK!! ("WHEW!!)

Even with humidity levels at 7-9%, it's still brutal!

Any riding in the Valley needs to be completed BEFORE 9 AM! No cool nights again until October....

The only relief is to Flagstaff and points north, 3+ hours, or San Diego, 6 hours to the West, and to the cool Pacific ocean!!

Oh yeah!

I am in Cornville - start in Phoenix, ride about one and a half hours north while looking for BFE, but make a wrong turn and ride another fifteen mins - Cornville. We expect a nice 108 today. Satan called me this morning about the weather, I told him to stay in hell; it's cooler there.

I rode bicycle for a short shopping trip today, as early as I could.

Just as a point of reference July 2012 in Oklahoma was the hottest month on record ... EVER! Add in a bit of humidity here in Eastern OK , HIFs in the 125 range .

Yeah , but it's a wet heat . Damn , several days in succession in 2012 we had lows of 90 .

Call me wacked, but after my schooling was up in Phoenix back in 2005 (MMI), I couldn't wait to get back home to the Mid West. Given that sentiment, I feel the Phoenix area has some of the best weather in the nation 8-9 months out of the year. Oddly enough, Barb and I were just talking about taking a vacation out there this coming winter.

A few fun facts for those of you who DON'T live on "The Forbidden Planet" (aka Summer time in the Valley of the Sun)

* We get 8 months of paradise, and 4 months of Hell...and this time of year, it is spelled HELL!!
* We usually get about 2-3 months of passive weather (no AC or heat required)
* During the summer, we keep the AC in the house at 78-80 degrees - and that is COOL!

* When it is over 110+ degrees for a few days, the pool water is a refreshing 90+ degrees
* I have seen and experienced 100 degrees at midnight
* The heat goes up like a staircase until dark. 2 PM is hot, 4 PM is hotter, 6 pm is the peak, etc.

* I left La Jolla, CA last Monday @ 7:15 AM, and it was a cool 63 degrees, when I arrived back in Phoenix @ 1:15 PM, it was 112+ degrees.
* When you go out and it is 115 degrees - - you almost cannot believe it is that hot!!

I call it..."silly heat!"

Once, when I still lived in Califormica I flew into PHX. The pilot announced, "a balmy 122." I thought that I dislike the high 80s enough that I would not notice. Wrong! Even in the jetway the heat hit me like a cast iron skillet.

When in was there last Monday my friend's Prius was sjowint OAT of 118. I even walked in it.

I was going to a job interview in a full suit and tie the day it was 122. It was so "SILLY HOT" that they closed Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport for a while, because the planes could not get any lift and the numbers for this were off the chart!!!!

I drove from Phoenix to the air base/museum once when it was so hot the air force was grounded and the film in my camera got sticky. I had some good clam chowder at the truck stop.

I also like to remind out-of-town'ers that the official temperature only tells you part of the story since official temps are at 5feet off the ground, over grass, IN. THE. SHADE. O.o Walking across a parking lot to your bike/auto in direct sunlight, on melting asphalt is a completely different kind of hell.

Feel for you guys in AZ, I really do. Back from a nice 3 hour ride on Little Goose. Had lunch with buddy Ed at Fung's for fab chinese.

Overcast, about 92F and 90% humidity here. Had to use the water on the gel seat trick after lunch to avoid roasting my butt. Roast butt can get pretty chunky. Dang we had a fun ride, got a bit uncomfortable stuck on side street on freeway, but otherwise moving most of the time. Hit a light rain shower, no big ones this time.

You want hot? Try Libya in July, deep desert: 122F. Ungodly with the sand dunes. Evening it plummets fast though. Dangerous heat.

Thinking of a bit more chocolate and water, then a nap.

Stay frosty and remember whatever the question is, the answer is a cold beer. Make it a good one.

Grew up there.

A funny one was when my wife and I were dating. She had lived in Albuquerque, Guam and San Diego. She went barefoot everywhere.

Visiting Phx. Needed to go to a friend's house two blocks away. She decided to not wear shoes. ROFLMAO. She thought the sidewalk was hot. I warned her about the pavement. She took two steps and jumped on my back. I was surprised there were no blisters (she still has tough feet).

One of the TV stations used to mark the first day each year when they could fry an egg on the sidewalk in front of their building. It was usually in early June. July, Aug and Sep are hotter. And the sidewalk is 10's of deg cooler than the pavement.

We had times where the temp did not drop below 100F for several days. That was not the high, it was the LOW.

As a kid it was less noticed. We got to play golf for free during the summer when it was over 115F. No one else was stupid enough to be on the course :) The golf pro knew us. Made sure we had enough water and would keep an eye on us as we played.

We also frequently measured temp in the backyard at well over 120F. Highest I saw was 126F.

Am glad I moved away. :)

As you read this, and at 3:56pm on a Friday afternoon, it is 113 and climbing!!

Again, just totally,..."Silly Hot!" Going for a quick swim in 90+ degree water soon. So refreshing...

Riding a motorcycle now is like riding into a hot hair dryer....literally!

Just talked to a buddy who lives north in Sedona and was complaining that it was 101 up there right now.

There is only one alternative to staying indoors: NORTH to Flagstaff / Colorado or WEST to San Diego!

You get used to it after a while. To me anything under 105 is gravy, and you don't have to shovel heat! I was out PMing a paving crew, now that gets hot!

I spent the first 38 years of my life in Phoenix. It used to cool off at night before Phoenix got huge. Now the miles of concrete radiate heat all night and theres no breaks.

I'm happily exiled to California now. I go home to AZ see relatives in the winter. For me, the eight months of OK weather aren't worth the 4 months of living in the air conditioning while its a furnace outside and the swimming pool is a refreshing 92 degrees.

I did my time. No more for me thank you.

What part of Calif. do you live in? That state has about any kind of weather you could want. I live in Az. and my weather is nothing like Phoenix. I know better than to live in Phoenix.

But the same can be said about parts of Calif., where I used to live, depending on your preferences..

Was too true. I lived in Williams, up on The Plateau and have seen nighttime temps below -30...not comfort index, raw temps. Id rather the heat than the cold white dismal.

Keeps the whiners at pikers at bay. I look forward each year to the flight of the snow-birds. Their shrieks of terror as the thermometers in their Buimobilecuries start to read three digits is a sweet sound to me. I wish they'd pay as much attention to their left turn signals which seem to be engaged when they get here about November and never rest unless the bulb burns out.

Add the dire warnings each year from the sqaulking-heads on TV... ".... temperatures... warning... WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW..."

Hell, I look forward to it.

Wanna feel alive? Live with the extremes of either cold or heat.

I just spent a miserable few days in San Diego county. Couldn't wait to get into my truck to hammer the A/C to pull some of the gravity defying water outa the air. I enjoyed doing the things and seeing old friends but can't imagine living there again over living here. My lungs'll set their own internal humidity thank you very much.

When folks go on about cold and say "I can always wear a sweater or heavier coat..." I take the tac that all I need is a bit of water, a place to step outa the sun and 1 1/2MPH or more of breeze to go with the 4-12% humidity.

As to the summers in general, this one is the second summer of a return to what it should be after 7 or so years of truly miserable and relentless heat with no air movement and lows over 90 the entire summer.

Breeze, reasonable lows, low humidity... only complaint I have is all the new-commers forcing these damnable rubberized roads on us. Transition from asphalt to one of those of a summer day and watch your throat convulsively close up in defense - not cool on a bike!

Yup, I dig it and revel in others revulsion of the same... skims the dross.

The hottest it get's here In Kingman area(3,500') is 105,7F with a constant breeze. I ride year round.

If you want hotter it's just 35 miles away @ Bullhead City next to the Colorado river.

There are 2 kinds of people..........tho se that prefer cold and those that prefer heat. I'll take the heat...to a point.
