Ski Tracks and Cycle Tracks

I don't know what the usual mapping devices give you, but I tried this app the other day on a ride from home (Falkland, BC) to New Denver BC (about a 3 1/2 hour ride) and found the device gave me a great record of the trip: average speed, top speed, elevation changes,, time of trip, and a gps track I was able to export to Google Earth to see where I went. It also pinpointed photos I took along the way on the track.

Here is the app:https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.corecoders.skitracks&hl=en

It cost peanuts and I ran it on a Samsung cell phone.

I see the company also makes the same app for Apple phones and also puts out a similar product called Bike Tracks. It is here:
https://itunes.apple.com/ca/app/bike-tracks-cycle-computer/id438688683?mt=8

Both sites show screen shots of what I mean.

I'm not particularly gimmick oriented, but I like these apps. I had given it the test on the ride in case I want to record a longer trip and send the information home via e-mail as a way of reporting in once in a while.

Running the device for 1/2 a day used up about 1/3 of the phone battery.
