One year I almost had the Pork Queen convinced it was custom for the Queen to give the fourth guy in line( me) a kiss. The stern eye of the matron discouraged any such foolishness though

This is going on the week of the rally in Decorah,Ia  about 50 miles away.

....also they have Eagles nesting near the fish hatchery near Decorah, the lady at the hatchery said.

It is a really nice ride if you go through Gunter the "Backroad" way.

Looks like fun....Alan

And it's a short sight seeing hop over to the Pikes Peak lookout over the Mississippi, maybe the most beautiful thing there is between the Appalachians and the Black Hills. Yes, they feed you very well. To me it is second only to the Illinois Rally.

The packing is underway.  After fresh herring at the MN Rally, I'm looking forward to the Iowa Chops in Elkader.  Ride safe.

Well, as the Texas Turnip Farmer sez, "If you watch the Weather Channel, you'll never ride anywhere.."
True. The Illinois rally was great, despite the forecast rains that never happened. <shrug>
Same deal with the Iowa rally. As late as Thursday, there was an 80% chance of Tstorms in that area. Pfffft. Loaded the Aero Lario in the van, and took it to the Kid's place in Lake Como.  Wisconsin. He had to w www work, so I blasted off for Elkader, Friday morning, Tstorms still in the forecast. Had a great ride through the driftless area of Wisconsin and Iowa.
Sunny and gorgeous.
Didn't know what to expect, because even though I'd bumped this thread up 2 or 3 times, there didn't seem to be much interest. I needn't  have worried, there was a good turnout when I arrived shortly after lunch. Met many old and new friends, including Nunzio off this list who loaned me his wife's cooler and ice  for beer.
Speaking of new friends, you would be surprised at how many lurkers came out of the woodwork to see the Aero Lario. "Oh, I never post, but I read the forum every day."  I ran in to it at Illinois, too.. a guy told me that was the only reason he came to the rally.. just to see the Aero engine. Never posts. Nothing wrong with that, of course, I should keep my mouth shut a little more often. Wouldn't stick my foot in it so much.
At any rate, the Kid roared in on his Grease O right at dinner time. Good timing.  :thumb: After a sumptuous Iowa beef dinner, we drank a beer or two,  looked at bikes, and went down to the Wisconsin Guzzi Guys  camp fire.
Slept like a baby.
No rain.
The next day, after shooting the sh!t with many, we decided to look for a brew pub in Decorah. Although it threatened to sprinkle, it just never managed to get her done. Found my new favorite IPA (just a sample.. we're on two wheels, ya know..) and went sight seeing on 9 toward the mighty Mississippi. I was leading when I spied a Muffler Man. (!) I have pictures of Muffler men and my bike from all over the country. I thought I'd found most of them in the midwest, but no. He'd found work at a farm store. Hit the brakes, made a youee, and got the obligatory picture.

Nice piece of Americana. They were born in California, and have traveled eastward, basically on Route 66, but these gentle giants can be found in many states, doing whatever is necessary to make a living. Most held mufflers in their hands, but you never know what you'll find them trying to sell any more.  :boozing:
Turned south at the river, and had a beautiful run down to the rally again.
It had sprinkled.
A little.
:food: Iowa pork chops served by the Pork Queen, then the Parade. Fun stuff.
Thanks, George, although I know you never read WG either.

I would have ridden thru several inches of rain to get there on Saturday, whether or not it rained at the rally. It rained buckets between here and there, and for hours. I do not deliberately ride in that kind of weather. You came from the east, the rain from the west. I hope they had a great turnout.

Interesting interview with the guy who created that line.

"RA: Was there much competition in the humanoid colossus field?

Steve: As I recall, we had no competition for the big men. There was an outfit in Wisconsin [Creative Displays, Sparta, WI, an ancestor of F.A.S.T.] that made some smaller stuff, and they had a 20' or so cow and steer (which we did not have). The Wisconsin guys were making big cows and steers -- I don't think they did any PBs or related, at least not while we were in the business."

Chuckie , was that you who posted all of the muffler man pics several years ago ?

  Dusty

I don't remember doing that.. but then, I don't remember much any more.  :cheesy:
I have several, though. I haven't *looked* for any for several years, and this guy just popped up.. one of those serendipitous things. The Kid had one, too.. he said he was riding toward the rally on 3 where it climbs away from the river.. trees on both sides and gentle twistys for miles with the Dead in his helmet playing "Hell in a bucket"  :cheesy:
"I may be going to hell in a bucket, babe

It was nice to meet and talk to everyone.
Joni and I had a great time.
We got home with the sidecar and trailer in the bed of the truck and the "new to me" 1000SP riding next to Joni's XS650 on the Kendon trailer.

I can't understand why the fuel mileage on my truck was so poor.

Chuck,... that's a Polar Bear soft sided cooler...they are great..wait till December and they usually  have a 50% OFF sale on their website.
