There is always the possiblity of someone out there being better than you, despite a lot of training (or armed heavier than you).  Be careful out there.

But, in this case it was obvious the attacker was impaired by something (alcohol, drugs, etc) and was not trained at all.

That's the assumption you should make in every encounter.

The ol' dude snapped. I just thank God he got out of his car first!
Well, he's a movie star now with millions of viewers and will be defined by this moment for a long, long time.

Good on the motorcyclist to take control of the situation and show restraint. I would have crapped in my pants, panicked, and fled.

Brings back memories.  Not of the fight, but the area.  I lived about a half mile from that intersection back in the early '80s.  Anyway, the driver was completely in the wrong and will hopefully be charged with assault.

The thing is that a crippled up old guy like me couldn't have given him the benefit of dought and when he attacked I wouldn't fight over it but turn his lights off. It's lucky the motorcyclist and girlfriend had enough physical assets to expend to gracefully de escalate the situation.

Two points:

1. This is a good testimonial for the use helmet cams on motorcycles / dash cams on cars  :thumb:

2. It's sad that some people are wrapped so tightly, that they have to behave like this!  (Geeez!)

I thought the motorcyclist displayed incredible restraint...conside ring he had his girlfriend with him, and (IMHO), that moron in the car should be charged with assault and he was definitely in the wrong!

I'm told the driver of the car is being charged with assault and driving under the influence.

My only problem is that I can't run fast enough to flee, so I have to find other alternatives!

When you are immediately assaulted like that, you don't have to flee (unless you feel that's your best option).  We all have an inherant right to self defense.  In this case, there was no opportunity to talk your way out.  Driver is luck he didn't get it worse.

Probably the best we'll do is find out that the police viewed the whole video, and then charged the driver with assault and DUI, and charged the motorcycle rider with nothing.   Hard to imagine that the rider could have done anything that would have justified (in law or otherwise) the driver's action ....

Yes, I saw it.   I was just adding the part about "the police viewing the whole video".   We probably won't see it, but I'll bet they did.

I would have assumed so, and/or at least gotten witness statements (like the guy in the video who said he saw the whole thing from across the street).

I saw a clip of that on the news this morning, but not the full thing until this thread (thanks for posting the link) - I think they suspected the driver to be under the influence of something when I saw the blurb on the news. I would agree with that. He was about to take a nap there at the end and got pretty comfy laying in the curb.
