Dusty, I understand what you are saying. But if you want to minimise moving parts you'd probably be best off riding a BSA M20. I think that might be a bit of a challenge on most roads in modern first world, countries,
OK, that argument is specious, I know that, but number of moving parts per-se is a silly quantifier of 'Simplicity'.
I long ago posted up a photo-essay on how to rip apart the top end of an 8V, (This seems to be the major 'Mechanical' bugbear of the new motor.) then there is the whole 'Fuel Injection' issue...
The W5AM controller and it's set up is an amazing example of minimalist simplicity. Keeping a W5AM bike in tune is stupidly, stupidly simple
AS LONG AS YOU UNDERSTAND HOW THE SYSTEM WORKS AND DONT TRY AND SECOND GUESS IT! Surely everyone is begging for simplicity? Well, here it is, served up on a shiny plate with a cherry on top!
There is no obligation to experiment with alternative mapping or sod about with anything. The GRS8V-03 map is pedestrian but it does allow owners to screw about with all sorts of stupid, poorly thought out, *Performance* modifications without killing the bike. Same applies with most of the other factory maps as they know that the first thing most people will do is throw away the bits they think are screwing up the performance, even though they aren't! You can buy and ride a 'Modern' Guzzi with every bit of the confidence you might have of the 'Older' models. It's just different, BUT EASIER! Thing is if you DO want to optimise performance, with W5AM bikes and hopefully soon with the other newer controllers, it's easy and, (Suspender twang!) FREE unless you have the moral backbone to actually voluntarily contribute to help with out of pocket expenses incurred by enthusiasts, (Not me!).
I will keep saying until I'm blue in the tits! If you are happy working on a 4V Guzzi you have NOTHING to fear from the 8V, Really! If I was interested in inning my pockets wouldn't I be trying to sell my knowledge as some sort of mysterious 'White Man Ju-Ju' rather than saying there is nothing to be afraid of.......
Hang on? Even from here I can hear the crinkling noise of tinfoil being moulded into close fitting hats....
