EV motor in loopframe issues
« on: August 04, 2015, 10:45:37 AM »
I started this project a while back. I had my 98EV motor mounted in with some cool brackets and thought the alternator cover would clear with just a slight fender mod.
I was surprised how tight it was until I realized that I had a 67 frame with the tighter rake.
Soooooo, I bought the adapter from Mark at Guzzi classics, got a loop timing chest cover machined to clear the timing chain, pulled the motor out of the frame, drilled and tapped for the studs for the new alternator conversion kit for loopframes and then....
I pulled the timing chest cover and realized Mark's adapter just isn't going to work on the later crankshaft. And I have no desire to swap out the crankshaft.
I gave away my other loop frames so now I guess I need to find a later loopframe to work with.
Always something.......... ..

Yeah, know Joe well. He has a couple of project bikes that would work but I don't need a drive line.

When I was out there last spring, Mark had *several* loop frames.

The rake of the V700 and other Loop frames is the same, the only difference is an approx. 1" longer frame length on Ambo and Eldos and triples that have 20 mm less offset.

I still have a spare frame or two in the attic.

The adapters only work with the tapered bosch alternator cranks.  My father is going through the same issue in putting a strada motor in a eldo.  They cut the front of the crank and are having a custom puppy adapter made
