v50 iii breather box

Hi, I've tried blowing into the largest hole in the breather box (the one to the heads) and while there is initial resistance to air a decent blow seems to  open the valve wider. So air does go through, slightly at first and then the valve seems to open when I blow harder. I'm assuming it should be one way as it flows from the heads. If I blow back down the other 2 (blocking one off at a time) there is resistance but the is definitely air getting through. Does this sound right ?  I'm wondering when you need to change these, do they wear etc ?

And - I can't actually find it in the parts manual, I'm calling it the breather box, pic below...
 
And - I'm assuming that the other hole (not the one to the heads or the sump) is a breather to equalise pressure, on my bike (non runner) it had a piece of garden hose running to the back of the bike about level with the top of the shock, where should this actually go to etc?

Thats not a stock V50 breather box. They are normally part of the airbox.
I am guessing your bike has Pod filters on the carbs?

The box serves to collect oil vapour blown out of the heads. Where it condenses in the box and drains the collected oil back down to the sump (the large hose that runs down the left side of the bike), and or gets sucked in to the carbs and burnt.

I used a Nevada breather box to run pod filters on my Monza. Basically any Box you can make fit/work will do.

Hi, thanks for that, it makes sense now. It doesn't have pod filters but one big k&n bolted to the rear part of the airbox, so the part with the tube for the head breathers and pipe to the sump is missing.

What's the real difference with pod filters? Did you notice any real performance increase, and I assume lots more induction noise etc?

The breather box shown is from a "Loopframe" Guzzi (V700, Ambassador, Eldorado). In it's original fitment, the small pipe is the oil return line, the largest connects to the breather pipe on top of the engine, the medium sized one vents to atmosphere. To work as designed, the pipes need to be vertical.

This is the breather configuration on a carbureted Nevada:

16 is the rotomolded plastic breather box (shown below), 17 is to the heads, 20 is the oil return, 21 is to the air filter or atmosphere. The breather box fits just behind the steering head area.

cool, I get it now.

I now have the box, is there a smart way to mount this on a v50 or is it creative cable tie territory ?

What "box" do you now have? The plastic Nevada type? If so, I believe it held in place by the frame tubes. Rests on the two horizintal ones and is pushed forward into the area behind the steering head.
