I got a SIG ( 9mm )

Yesterday, I was spending some downtime in a gun store looking at polymer autoloaders and marveling at the quantity and quality of gun available for the cost outlay..

G19 and 17s, HK VP9s, Walther PPQs, XDs and XDms, Berettas and Rugers, MPs and FNHs, etc..The Glocks and the Springfields in particular are a lot of gun for the money ( +/-$500 ).

But I found one even better variant which fits the formula ( IMHO ).

It is the Sig Sauer SP2022. 9mm/ polymer frame. Currently employed by France Police - to the tune of 250000 units and about 80000 for Colombia's Gendarmeria. Also our own Det of the Army purchased around 5000 of these same Sigs for armored crew personal defense. The French Ministry supposedly ran 400000 rounds flawlessly through their SP2022 test guns. This led to their large quantity purchase of the Sig.

Anyhow, I got one of these SIGs for $50 Less than a Glock19 or Springfield XD9.


At this time the Sig is in jail, per the prerequisite time interval.

I've always wanted a 9mm SIG Sauer, such as the P226 -  but the cost  ( $1K ) was prohibitive for me to justify what would be basically a Range toy,  ( with maybe a secondary role as Home Defense gun. )

But I garnered information pre-purchase, and found quite a few opinions by supposed Sig Sauer Cognescenti who regard the SP2022 as a polymer framed variant of the Alloy framed P226 / 229.

The internals, they point out, are virtually the same in both variants. Same applies to general controls operation and target acquisition..

Most noticeable differences between the P226 and the SP2022, as recounted, are weight ( the 2022 is almost 1/3rd the weight of the all-alloy version P226    - and Cost. The SP2022 ( NIB ) being priced at $500,  is close to being Half the cost of a new P226.

 

I got me a 9mm SIG, finally.

nice, how did it compare to the other 9mm's you shot.  I'd be really interested on how it compares with the Glock.   My dream gun would be either a WW1 or WW2 1911 that has seen some use in the theatres.  Maybe morbid, but really a cool gun.

Nice pistol.  Sig makes great guns.  I recently shot several 9mm guns and favored the Walther PPQ (fit my hand better than the Sigs and Glocks).   Paid $499 for mine.  Found it very accurate and easy to shoot.

Firstly, I'm seriously queer for lanyard loops on service pistols so there's that.

Then, the fact that these seem to perfectly meld old and new is a monster bonus.

My tip... get the mag right now, factory or Mecgar and don't stop buying till you have 13. Sounds ridiculous but when you can't get them at any cost it'll be the cat bird seat for you.

had a P229 in .40S&W for years, hands down the best I've owned.

after it I had an XD40, which was ok but didn't have the fit and feel of the Sig.

recently picked up an S&W M&P Shield (in .40S&W) and a 586, which is my current favorite shooter.

Then you can carry it like Tuco!  :) Sig Sauer...just sounds so cool, almost as good as HK.  :)

Sig P220 W. German made, is my EDC weapon. Used the P220 and P226 in the Navy a lot.  I love Sigs. Never had a failure that wasn't my fault.  Like a fat kid it will eat anything you try to feed it.  Factory, home brewed, or remanned. I would trust my life, and do everyday, to a Sig.

I was allabout all traditional, all the time. However, there's a reason why we have polymer frames. I've always liked the Sig system and their decocker.  It is intuitive, and, most of all, the gun does not depend upon a safety. Point, pull, bang.

I started considering the heresy of a polymer gun. Thee Glocks felt odd in my hand and i didn't like the trigger. Nothing about reliability- they just felt odd.  Another consideration is that here in the People's Republic of massachusetts, we have a fairly limited selection of hand guns. Something jumped out of the case and I tried a H&K VP 9. Wow- what a great feeling gun. The press is all over the Walther PPQ. I'm sure it's great- but it's not mass compliant. I bought a VP-9 and it is fantastic. Phenomenal ergonomics, manageable weight, much more reasonable cost than a standard H&K, legendary reliability, and very accurate.  Oh yeah- and it looks cool.

Congrats on the plastic gun. There's a lot to be said for them.

Yep, they're tools but you have to treat them a little differently than you do a cordless electric drill or a bricklaying trowel.

Just "chucking them" under seats and into bags will eventually (if you're human) get you into the paper as the guy who sent a loaded pistol through the airport Xray ("DANG, I forgot I threw that in there last month!"), or end up taking it away from a kid who found it on the backseat floor of the car after it slid through.

When my guns go out of my house with me, they go under very controlled circumstances.   I know this will jar with a Westerner who has two 30-30's behind the seat of his King Ranch F150, but that's just me.

ALL my handguns are steel Colts, Brownings, and S&Ws EXCEPT my Ruger LCP lightweight summer carry gun; and I really had to get used to it; it feels like a toy.   Just a sad old traditionalist like Chuck, but I've gotten really used to the solid feel and action of the older-design pistols .....

I stayed away from plastic guns for a long time.  But, first was a synthetic stock on a rifle.  Made it from so-so to pretty accurate.

I had already made the leap from steel to stainless and aluminum so was ready to go plastic.  When I wanted another .45 I decided to finally get a high cap version (I was a dyed in the wool Colt 1911 type).  Glocks have never fit my hand.  Too blocky feeling.  Even shot one again just to see if they changed any.  Nope.  Then fired a bunch of the others.  Friends have all the regular ones.  Taurus, M&P, Springfield, etc.  I finally got the full size XD.  I like it.  And, no, not a CCW gun (I already have 4 others that can do that).  Just fun to shoot and keep by the bed.

Congrats on the 9mm.  My sister-in-law has carried her Sig for about 6 years now.

GuzziMike, Welcome to club Sig. This will not be your last one. Between my Sigs and my old S&W I have a nice spread. Looked at the 2022, just not ready to add to the group.

That being said, if I ever had to use a weapon to defend my life it would be a Sig.

Sig lists the weight of the P226 at 34oz with a mag. So, you're saying your 2022 weighs less than 12 ounces if it's almost 1/3rd the weight of a P226?!

I had one as a sidearm issued to me when I was in the service.

I just bought a S&W Bodyguard 380 and a pocket holster for personal carry. It's so small and unobtrusive that it's so easy to carry. Fits in the back or front pocket JUST like a wallet.

Could not carry my M&P 9mm nearly as easy.

Had to laugh at that one.  Our issue 1911's were horrible.  Some of them could be traced back to WWII and Korea (this was in the 70's).  They did work, but, that was about it.  If you take your time and sort through them you can sometimes find a 'tighter' one.

I had my Grandfather's 1911 and it was very loose.  Had it worked on to get it a bit more accurate.  It shoots well now.  It has a new slide, barrel, sights,.....  Yep everything except the receiver is new  :)

We all have different things that "scare" us.   Some people are "scared" of the stock market.   Some are "scared" of spiders.  Some are "scared" of flying on an airliner.   Some are "scared" of deer jumping out of the woods onto a bike.   Some are "scared" of big government.

If something "scares" you, it almost doesn't matter if it's reasonable or not.    People can be "scared" of one situation, and can comfortably accept another situation that is 100 times more likely to hurt or kill them.    Just the way we people are ....

Hell, the thought of knitting, sewing and electrical work scare me!  But love shooting guns! Be it a BB rifle to 44mags.  Purchased a few handguns this year being as I celebrated turning 50 this summer.  Already had a polymer Glock 23, a few revolvers and a .22 target pistol, but wanted a smaller lightweight pistol for a IWB CCW.  Bought a M&P Shield 9mm which I liked but then thought I needed a larger 9mm, so I bought a CZ75d PCR and a month later bought a BHP for range use and because i always wanted one.
Then I thought, I really miss my old S&W .45, so I bought a Dan Wesson Guardian .45 and a few weeks later a Colt GCNM.  A couple weeks ago i was going through my Dad's WWII pics and decided to buy a CZ 1911A1(Made by Dan Wesson).

Mike, enjoy your new Sig when it gets out of detention....sorry you have to endure the wait.    Just have to fill out paperwork, show my CCP,  clerk calls the feds to make sure I'm not a wanted man, pay for the pistol and off I go.

As mentioned, welcome to club SIG.. I was carrying a P290RS but the Glock G43 won me over..

On this note, and motorcycle (kinda) related..

I have a bit of an over abundance of CMP gun cases that come with M1 Garands from CMP.. We'll just say I have a lot of them..  I decided to sell off about a dozen cases on Craigslist, as I really don't like the cases and I do like beer, so I have been selling the cases at 2 for $25, and in some cases I've been delivering.. It's amazing how much extra room people give you when you have two gun cases on the back of a scooter.. They don't know if they're empty or not..

Congrats. SIG make very nice products. A fellow in my CWP class had a SIG .357. What impressed me was how the empties all fell in the same pile. Bersa BP9CC for the dog walks and light clothing summer concealment. Nothing feels as right as my Springfield GI .45, though. Didn't stop me from buying a Ruger .45DC or Bersa Compact .45 either. Wheelers are nice and a Ruger Birdhead Vaquero .45 Colt sees some use.

If these two haven't done it by now, the uber-civilized Sig has zero chance at it..





Now, This One can give you a nice shiner if you are extremely careless and concurrently crowd the Ocular on 16X PowerZoom while squeezing the Accu-trigger..





However,  considering that this scope has about 3.5" eye relief, it would take an extremely confused person violating numerous basic safety protocols for Scope-Tag to occur. Certainly, any such black eye awarded by this rifle's optic would be due to 99% operator error. So, while a remote possibility exists, it is highly unlikely.


But, playing Devil's Advocate here; let us assume a "Perfect Storm"  of errors compiled by the operator stack up, concluding in Zoom-induced Ocu-Anal inversion Trauma..

 If such a Black Eye Scope Tag Did take place, I'd have to say that it was probably deserved; and should be archived as "Lesson Learned" by the Scopee...

I carried a Sig in several different forms (225, 228, 229) for 20 years.   Love them, no complaints.

Glocks (22 & 27) for the last 7 years.  It's a better "combat" pistol for many reasons.  Tough part for the first year was not trying to "de-cock" the Glock!
