Intake Manifold Cross Reference - 850 T3
« on: August 30, 2015, 09:03:59 AM »
I have an 850 T3 that I bought with non-OEM straight rubber manifolds. I would like to go back to standard and, for purposes of widening my buying universe, would like to know if there are options from other Guzzi models that will fit?
Thanks in advance for any help.

For starters , the factory( OEM) aluminum cast  manifolds you'd go back to are common to: 850T, CX100, SP1000, Convert, G5 to name some.   The rubber(?) ones you mention came on some (late) CX 100 as well as SPNT(1980/84) but they  used PHF( round slide) carbs.  the  T3's used VHB ( square slide ) carbs .What's on your bike? Please mention .Other options are : Delrin Manifolds ( not rubber) available  to install PHF carbs. The LM 1 aluminum manifolds  (a bit rare) would also work with the requisite rubber sleeves. This is just  a quick answer as other options may also be available

The bike had been cafe'd when I bought and had 40mm Mikuni's on it.  Ran badly, so I installed PHF30's.  I used the same straight aluminum manifold and rubber connector tube as was on it (36mm I/D carb side).  I want to use the original type of slightly angled manifolds to get the carbs back out of the way of my knees.  Also, I want to have a screw plug in them to make it easier to sync the carbs.  So as long as the manifold fits the head, I am confident I can attach the carbs via a rubber connector.
Given this additional info, will the models you mentioned in your response fit the bill?
Thanks for the response and help.

PHF Carbs came in 2 versions:  with Male spigots( which take a rubber sleeve and attach as in 850 Lemans 1,2, 3 etc ( which are angled) . That is the simplest way to rubber mount  what you got but :good luck finding some inexpensively or , use the Delrin manifolds (see MGCycle. Those also have inward angles). The other type of PHF 30 ( as in Ducati GT 750), is the female spigot  type with a nylon sleeve inner  lining and a  ring clamp. Those would work with the  aluminum manifolds I mentioned in the previous post , but they are  originally solid mount for female spigot carbs  The stock way is with Dellorto VHB 30 carbs( square slide) and the aforementioned manifolds. The section in Guzziology on carburetors explains all that and more .
