Put me on the right road

I've just been to look at a Breva 1100 and want the 4V (budget wont stretch to a late 8V) Engine to miss all the flat tappet problems.
Can somebody confirm that this is a 4V engine as I struggling to make sense of all the mysterious MG descriptions I'm afraid

No problem with the 4V Engine AFAIK its the 8V with flat tappets that has the problem but if Dusty & Dave are right I'm worrying about nothing!

And yes - its the 1st I've seen in the flesh but it pushed all my buttons

It's a semantics thing. Some call the 4 valve engines "8 valve" because there are 4 in each cylinder. Some call the 2 valve engines "4 valve" for the same reason.. so it can be confusing. There is no valve issue on the 2 valve engines.

Your B1100 has 2 valves per cylinder, an no problems.

Good bike.  Install the startus interuptus, if it isn't already there, an eastern beaver horn wiring harness and dual Fiamm freeway blaster horns and you are good to go.

That's a great bike. You have a full set of hard bags and a windscreen to boot. In general, the Brevae have had very few issues. The "startus interuptus" rewire is simple- don't forget to do it. TRUST ME.

When you consider what you will pay vs what you get- these machines are a tremendous value

(2v per cylinder.)  My 1200 Sport is simply a gussied-up version of the Breva 1100, and she's been a wonderful Guzzi for over 60,000 miles.  The same chassis with minor changes is used on the B11, 1200S, and Norge.  Sure, I pulled the rear swing arm per advice from this forum, and greased the bearings.  And I added a center stand early on, since it makes it easy to change tires.  And on the Sport, I installed an Aprilia handlebar ... something you won't worry about.  Swapped out the plastic/metal fuel filter for a 100% metal BMW filter, just for peace of mind.  Other that these few things, this old gal has been bulletproof.  A few oil seeps, one around the phase sensor, but that didn't show up until after 50k miles.  An easy fix, with some good advice from Jim at Rose Farms.

Oh, yes ..... as Boat Detective mentioned, if the PO hasn't done so, install 'Startus Interruptus.'  A simple solution that'll assure she'll start every time you hit the button.

Go for it!  I personally believe this series of 2v CARC bikes might go down as one of Guzzi's best efforts.  I continue to this day to be amazed at how nicely this lump of an engine shuffles through traffic, but so effortlessly winds thru the gears to redline.  To me, this is one amazing pushrod engine.  With a well-designed tranny behind it.  And the chassis feels damned tough, too.

JFYI, Moto Guzzi refers to and calls the Norge an 8 Valve, hence the name Norge GT 8V. No confusion. The previous version was a 4 Valve.

Truth is, once it is sorted it will be one of the most satisfying road bikes you will ever enjoy riding.  And my wife thinks it was the best looking of any bike I ever owned.
