Enough to fill 38 Olympic swimming pools. I guess we got that going for us.

How can this be news? I though they told us in school that there was water on Mars, and that was 40 years ago. Perhaps someone forgot and had to send a probe up there to find out again.

I say that it's fairy urine based upon the IR signature and the refraction of the interstellar spectroscopy.  Yet another S.W.A.G. from the astroscience community to get headlines and hopefully spur more funding.

They have know your decades that water existed on Mars in non liquid form, i.e. gas, and Ice.  This is the first that they have discovered liquid water, this could turn out to be a really big deal!

150 years ago they were all excited about "Canali" on Mars.   This is probably the 21st century version.

Now if they actually found "Cannoli" on Mars, I'd vote for some more funding ....

So it has a tiny bit of water, it has no magnetic field and nothing to shield it from solar winds and radiation.  How are they going to deal with that.

Now don't be narrow minded BigFoot, you need not be a fairy to appreciate a special shower!

Same way its always been done, live in caves and use a Stelvio to go out for supplies. Really though, they already have the technologies to deal with that on the space station. By the time it's time to go there they'll scale it up.

Seems like a year doesn't go by and they need to rewrite what they know about anything past Earth and quite a bit that is on it too.

Bet this does fantastic things for the new movie, Martian.

They're releasing a documentary about it.  Calling it "THE MARTIAN".  I think it's amazing that they can put together a 2-hour newsreel in perfect synch with the actual discovery.   :thumb:

Not surprised. We used a ammonia/ chilled brine solution to make pops and ice-cream at the creamery. Chilled those concoctions to solid form in short order definitely not good for your skin.

So theoretically, some day , there could be a 100 plus h.p. liquid cooled small block guzzi available on mars? That may even be the closest dealer for some of us.
