Nevada 750 air filter change mod.
« on: October 01, 2015, 06:25:53 PM »
After cursing the desingers of this stooopid airfilter placement I may have the solution at no cost, just time. To change the airfilter on my 2000 Nevada basically required the removal of a cylinder or dropping the engine. Neither idea appealed.
Here is my mod.
1-remove tank
2-remove chrome plastic air scoops
3-remove black plastic things that go either side of steering head.
4- remove small plastic cover from air box to expose 'cheese grater' intake.
5- undo spring loops holding everything together.
6- lift cheese grater top away and remove 5mm diameter rubber seal from underside.
At this stage you will not be able to take the cheese grater or paper filter cartridge out...but..drag the cheese grater as far to one side as possible.(I'm right handed and pulled mine to the left)
7-take the blade out of your hacksaw and gently cut down the length of the cheese grater in the middle from front to rear. I cut the front spring retainer in half so when the spring goes back it helps hold it together.
8- when in half( take your time) slide the 2 halves out and remove the filter cartridge.
9- clean all traces of plastics sawing swarf from inside the aircleaner box.
10- put in new paper cartridge and put the 2 halves of cheese grater back with rubber seal.
11- Reassemble.

Should be a quick 15 minute job to replace it next time.
Cheers.

And while you are at it, lose the chromed plastic air scoops, it looks better without them.  (The 2012 Nevada does not have them.)  Thanks for posting that mod, I bought a new air filter but never put it in after seeing what a hassle it would be.  Wish you had some pictures to go with the description because that poorly conceived airbox setup is hard to visualize.  Anyway, I'll give it a try this winter.

For the 'trying to look like a Hardley' air scoops I'm thinking of nipping down to my local sign writers supply shop and buying half a metre of carbon fibre look sticky  vinyl.......or just leave them off.

Hello! Has anybody done this modification? Does it seem viable? Thanks, Paul

I wrote this guide on air filter change for a '09 V7.  The early V7 had the same engine and frame as the Breva and Nevada, but bodywork is different, so I don't know if it applies.
