Calling Florida Panhandle Guzisti
« on: November 12, 2015, 04:11:25 PM »
I'm in Destin until the end of the month with my V7. Route 98 is crowded and boring. Any nearby good half day rides?
I did go to Adventure Motorsports in Pensacola - quite a place! The ride there and back was not the best however.
My other ride was to Walmarts in the rain (but no rain gear!).

Gotta go north away from the coast to get away from the congestion and the flat straight roads.
I'm closer to the state line tha destin and ride a lot up into south Alabama.

What are you looking for? Curvy country roads? Not many around here but I have some suggestions if that's what you're looking for

Hi, there; I have been living in the area (Mary Esther) for over 16 years, and I agree; along US 98, it is just boring, but going up north on Alabama country roads is much more rewarding.

This is the formula, ride 50 miles for 5 miles of nice roads. Repeat.

Stay off of 98, it's flat out boring and dangerous.

PS. If you head to Pensacola again I can show you the one or two roads in South Alabama that are OK.

OK-looking at 85 N. Any nice roads or sights up that way? Just looking for uncongested roads and maybe an interesting destination.

Thanks.

You can take 85 upto florala and visit florida's highest point in lakewood(about 300 ft above sea level). South and east of florala are some pretty good roads. Fl 2 between us331 and sr 81 is one they I hit often. Take hwy 2 east to 177a and south to Bonifay. Then us 90 west to ponce de Leon and 81 south to red bay. Then right on rock hill road which takes you to us 331 south and back to the coast. South of I-10 between defuniak sprgs and ponce de Leon are some pretty good roads. Careful though I think the sheriff monitors that area cuz the loonies on their crotch rockets like to blast around there.
If you want to go further north all of south Alabama is pretty good riding.
As far as sights to see"..... Naval aviation museum in Pensacola is AWESOME. If you can go on a Wednesday that is the blue Angels practice day. Runway is right behind the museum.
Hope some of this works for you.

Thanks much for that-I'll give some of it a try.

For today a gun show in Ft Walton and veterans day at FW HD.

Looks like Blackwater State Forest has some nature trails.

If you (op) are looking for outdoor it might be worthwile to check out eglin afb reservation. Runs from the coast to I-10 and is 50 miles wide. If you have a dual sport or adventure bike the permitting is all on line now. Bike has to be street legal with insurance to qualify. Plenty of other outdoor stuff open to the public.

Question for the responder on the Scott's ferry rally. Open to anyone I assume? Heard about it last year after the fact. Thought I might take the Breva and get some questions answered. First guzzi and no frame of reference to compare it to

Used to be called the "Coon Bottom" rally. Details are on the MGNOC rally calendar. Free camping for Motorcycles.
