NGC Space Waster: Subwoofer
« on: December 11, 2015, 07:20:32 PM »
I picked up a subwoofer last week.  I am running 41 year old stereo speakers and one of them was rattling on some lower bass notes, usually with movies but sometimes with some heavy bass music.  Anyway, the sub has 400 wts power and 12 in woofer.

I set it up to cut off freq on the mains at 100 hz and below, no more rattles.

Man, I have to say music is really crisp now.  The bass is very tight and sounds great for acoustic as well as electric music.  The highs seem more defined.  And you get all the dramatic stuff you expect from home theater when I turn on the center.  The center was an add on from the same company that made the sub, I've had the center for a few years.

All in all, it's exceeded expectations.  The stereo and video theater is just great.  Someday I might have to add surrounds.

Surround sound CAN be pretty good. Depends on your budget. I'm running a Klipsch system with two 12" subwoofers. Also, a nice headphone amp/ phones helps with the neighbors.

My buddy Ed designed the Mark 4:20 Freakin Fantastic Redneck Sub (FFRS).  Probably not as good as the commercial offerings for LFE but for music it sounds great.
