What do you think of this helmet?
« on: December 16, 2015, 10:38:02 AM »

The most innovative feature of the RS 1.0 is the head's access point. The helmet splits vertically in two parts that pivot around a hinge at the top and toward the back of the shell. This opening offers ample space for the head to slide into the helmet and then it only takes is a little pressure to reattach the two parts via two locking mechanisms. According to Vozz this can be done easily while wearing gloves and even glasses.

Waiting for the one where the top half lifts off leaving you with a neck warmer for colder days or insurance claim pictures.

Can you wear just the front half on hot days for bug protection?

How expensive is it?

If it ventilates well, seals well, isn't too heavy, has drop down tinted lense, priced right, and DOT approved I'm interested in it to replace my Bilt flip-up helmet.

GOOD IDEA and about time!

I Don't have to start with my glasses off then put on my helmet then FEEEEED my glasses into the helmet then lower the visor before I ride.  Then stop, raise the visor, take off my glasses, pull off my helmet then sometimes put on my glasses.

No chin strap to blind fiddle with or forget to feed through those blasted D-rings.  it's been known to happen

Also for us "Block-Heads" the helmets we use may be 2XL but the openings at the bottom are pretty tight.

The movie prop-makers will often use a familar helmet and mod it to look sci-fi.

The Halo look.

Unless I'm missing something in the photo, it is either on or off, unlike the other modular helmets where you can leave it on and open the front for eating, drinking, smoking, talking or expectorating.

I'm thinkin' I shouldn't like it. Fearing that which is new or unusual, as does any sane person.

That said, I'd like to try one. I should think building up custom interiors would be an outstanding high-point to the design.

For folks with giant melons like mine, trying to get a snug interior while still having an opening big enough to get my brain-ball through is nearly impossible.

But damn - those moving parts... Latches and hinges and pins - oh my! I half expect electronics or a liquid hook-up.

For these reasons I love my Nolan.  2nd Nolan actually.  Easy on without having to juggle my glasses.  The one pictured just looks goofy although it'll be easy to remove after an accident.

I love the idea so I dont have to futz about with my glasses or have them fall off my seat while I put on the helmet...

I agree it's probably loud as hell... every modular helmet is... Wiith the hinge and the big seam, this one is probably pretty bad.

It will be problematic in jurisdictions where a chin strap is mandated by law (i.e. Ontario).

Quote
104. (1) No person shall ride or operate a motorcycle or motor assisted bicycle on a highway unless the person is wearing a helmet that complies with the regulations and the chin strap of the helmet is securely fastened under the chin. R.S.O. 1990, c. H.8, s. 104 (1); 2015, c. 14, s. 36 (1).

I'd wait for ECE or DOT approvals but, even then, a LEO on a bad day could give the wearer lots of grief.
