2Wings,

Thanks, that is an interesting vehicle.  We close on this house in less than 2 weeks.  Busy is the game with upcoming move to new house next week.  After life settles down, my guess sometime April, perhaps May:  the retirement vehicle happens.  Saw a new Jaguar F-type coupe last weekend.  Wow, now this car turns my head, but it is probably past my budget range.

Still torn between practical SUV, and a sporty car.

Very nice John!
GliderJohn

Funny thing today.  I drove up to Kansas and purchased the Corvette today.  My neighbor was delivered a 2006 silver 911 to his house today (Chicago car with 11k miles, super super nice).

It was really funny seeing two sports cars delivered to two neighbors in a single day.  We talked to each other and had a big laugh.  We were happy for each other.

Got my retirement vehicle in the Fall.

Replaces my old E350 van.

Turning this one into a camper as I can afford it. It's a front wheel drive 6 x 10 tool shed! Room for almost anything inside. I really like it. Handles better than a Sprinter I drove. It's a gasser (V6) with regular 6 speed auto. Diesel wasn't in my budget. It's been perfect so far. Almost time for it's first service. It'll swallow two bikes AND you can camp in it!
Only issue at all is unwanted attention. The day I brought it home a neighbor came by to see if we were all OK. He said "I was concerned when I saw that ambulance in your driveway." I laughed my butt off.
yeah, I might be addicted to brake fluid. But I can stop any time I want.

A few small conversions and you can turn it into a Sportsmobile!  Is it 4x4 or 2 wheel drive?

On another note Greg...if your heart was set on the Alfa Romeo Giulia...looks like its introduction will be delayed a bit...something to do with not passing crash tests.

The Promaster is 2wd. (Front wheel drive.) Rear wheels are on a axle with leaf springs and shocks. On the plus side it has big Brembo disk brakes on all 4 wheels. Stops on a dime! The FWD limits the trailer towing to 5k lbs. But the FWD also gives it terrific maneuverability. You can get those driven front wheels almost sideways! Like driving a forklift backwards in parking lots!

We'll probably never own one, but it's clearly my favorite current car.

Jenn really likes em too, but if she were to indulge she says she'd probably go for a Range Rover. She really prefers the taller stance/viewpoint like she gets in her Jeep GC to that of a car, especially in traffic.

But things change, so who knows. After the kid's 529s are sufficiently funded in a decade or so, and her student loans are payed off we'll have freed up about double the monthly cash we'd need for a reasonable short term payment.

Or maybe she'll keep liking Jeeps and we'll spend it all on hookers and blow. Or maybe a beach house lol... Who knows.

Now that is a "cherry" Corvette!  Very nice.  I had a 1984, loved it.  There are some really nice C6 used Vetts floating around Houston:  trades for C7s I would guess.  Turned up a 2008 Porsche Cayman S I like, a lot, in San Antonio.  No time right now to get serious though.

Its another day of mover prep for me.  Ms. LD has spent all week, and most of this upcoming weekend working on a huge Ft. Bend County, TEXAS fund raiser.  Great cause, and very efficient.  But timing is not good for us.  We will survive though.  I expect a few days of chaos Twilight Zone just as we move, and for about a week afterwards....

Yeah, get to work!  Ugh...

I nearly went to Houston for one.  But it was further than I wanted to travel.  I missed a couple of apparent good deals in Little Rock and Dallas.  I was holding out for the performance suspension package but a Corvette buddy told me if I wanted to upgrade for the track to go for the sway bars ($250) and save the harsh ride.  This one was about $6k cheaper than the other ones.  One owner with some 47k pampered miles.  OTOH, my aforementioned buddy has only 11k miles on his '08.

I am amazed how smooth the ride is and how it doesn't rattle like I expected.

John,

Umm, so far retirement for me has mainly been very busy.  November was a bit slow, otherwise, yeah:  always something cooking.  I have been taking some (for college credit) classes.  Two more weeks of a class, and yep I need to do my homework.

Corvettes, well yes they can be wonderful machines.  My friend Ed has a brand new C7 on order, should arrive for his 70th birthday.  It is black, with a tan convertible top, and tan leather inside.  Should be very cool with the 7 speed manual.  The C6s turn my head.

This house move rig-a-ma-role (aka Normandy invasion logistics) is convincing me I DESERVE a FUN CAR.  Is that ego, or what speaking?  Geez my body is tired.  Humped all the garage liquids over today, and and most of the booze.  Also ripped down some old attic boxes and separated styrofoam and cardboard for recycling, and some boxes reuse.  We are trying to keep was to a minimum.

Sunday will be more house organization and hauling.  Monday a buddy is coming over with his truck and we will hump all the outside and inside plants over, plus some big rocks from our Colorado cabin that I don't want to leave behind.

Retirement?  What retirement?

Stick to the term "fun car" when shopping.  An suv or something that you could catch a mother in law owning will disqualify it.

December 25th an eighteen reindeer sleigh ...err an eighteen wheeler pulled up to my neighborhood and delivered my retirement vehicle. I found a nearly perfect '04 Porsche Boxster S 50th Anniversary Limited Edition 550 Spyder in Arizona and had it shipped to Atlanta. Special paint, interior, and other goodies. Love it.

John,
In my area it is nothing to see two vehicles re-poed in one day.

Very nice!  911's are like Guzzi's, once they get in your blood, you have to keep enjoying them.  Nothing like the sound of the flat 6 opening up in full throttle...and surprisingly comfortable for long hauls.  Greg...will make those trips to Durango seem like a blink of an eye if you get one of these.

Now where is Porsche's National Rally going to be this year...hhmmm!  May have to do that one too!

there's one a the local Porsche shop (I was test driving a used 'vette).  This one was an automatic and the price was $120k.  Used normally aspirated 911 .... sitting outside in the car lot with so many other Porsches

Thanks John...I'm all set...love my 911...just gently "urging" Greg to keep looking for his since so many others have also found their dream car as well.

$120K is probably over the budget though...I think he wanted to spend $50K...

Oh dang , a bit of research shows that the Datsun 2000 roadsters are still pretty affordable . If I were a car guy , a slightly modernized Fairlady would be on my short list .
