V7 taillight
« on: December 20, 2015, 04:36:19 PM »
Has anyone found a good replacement for the stock chrome lollipop on a newer V7?
The rear fender is molded to mount the stock light so it's not an easy swap

I had the same issue trying to find a replacement. I couldn't find one that would work without cutting up the fender. I ended up taking the stocker off, masking it, and applying several coats of matte black Plasti-dip. Turned out great. You'd never know looking at it that I had painted it. Plus it has the benefit of being able to return to stock easily. I did the same with the headlight bucket.

That's a good idea
Did you use gloss semi gloss flat?
I assume you used the spray not the dip
I have an older Italian moped taillight that would look good but then I'll need to make brackets for the turn signals
Oh well winter is 3 months long

Matte black spray. Its an exact match for the black plastic on the stock turn signals. Gives it a semi rough texture. The key to good Plasti Dip is lots of very light coats- say 10+. You can theoretically paint stuff in place and peel off the overspray, but to get a top quality result you need to disassemble the parts and hang them like you would with regular spray paint.

I'm going to spend some time on the CEV taillight that I picked up at a swap meet
Its Italian and looks "retro"
I paid $5 for it and winter starts tomorrow
