Real dogs on the market, why didn't I just buy another FJR or ST1300?
Being a "dog in the market" is not a reflection of the abilities of the bike.Seems you have some real buyers remorse going on.When spring gets here, and you're riding it again, hopefully the thrill will return from where it's gone.I'm sure you bought a Norge because it was different and exotic, as compared to the generic LD/ST bikes you listed. You'd rather an Alfa Romeo than a Toyota or Honda. Something with soul, rather than an appliance. If that's not the case, then you did buy the wrong machine.
I posted this PSA because the Norge is a tremendous bike. At $9,990, it is a steal. One could spend more money on a Moto Guzzi V7 or a Triumph Bonneville...I hope some people snap up the remaining Norges. I would like to see more of them on the road!
For that 9 grand and change, you'll buy an experience no other bike, including another Moto Guzzi can give you. When that bright sun breaks through the morning fog signaling that the curves will be dry by the time you get there, that first fresh pot of coffee just finishes brewing at the cafe 30 miles away and all the SLEDS are taking the day off, you'll smile. You'll smile because when you hit the starter and you feel that side to side rock from the engine which made half a turn and started you'll know there was a reason you bought a Norge. Its that first left turn and a run through 1st, 2nd and 3rd and settling in at 3500 rpm in 4th that makes you wonder why anyone would buy a bike that needs to be short shifted or it feels like someone knocked the air out of it.You'll merge into the freeway and run to the rpm alert flasher and never worry someone is going to moved into your lane because you flew into clear air and open road like a 777 empty headed for a ferry tour with no restrictions. If you are on the fence, get off and get on the Norge. You might see a V7, a cruiser type MG and practically every other MG made before you see another Norge, now what could be more exclusive than that or do you also wear Walmart brand underwear?
Damn. You should write ad copy for MG, bud. Not that I disagree with even a word of it.
I paid 2k too much!
You never get time back, you can't save time either.
Not that I disagree with even a word of it.
Except for the "short shift" part. Guzzis need to be wound out and revved high. Why's the Norge any different?
It is no different, I think you might have misread the post."Its that first left turn and a run through 1st, 2nd and 3rd and settling in at 3500 rpm in 4th that makes you wonder why anyone would buy a bike that needs to be short shifted or it feels like someone knocked the air out of it."IOW, why buy something that needs to be short shifted as opposed to the Norge which does not.Apologies if I was unclear.
Oh, okay. I thought I'd read you like to short shift the Norge in other posts. My bad...
No, you paid a good price. That 9k plus is much lower than I paid about 18 months ago for a 2013 but then here is the thing:I was able to ride my Norge for 18 months. You never get time back, you can't save time either. Riding days slip by and I wouldn't give up the wonderful rides I've had on my Norge for a couple grand, just not worth it.Keep it ready to ride, every day waiting for a part or a fix is a day of riding you never get back, its gone forever.
I must admit, I've made out by not being an 'early adopter.' Examples:1985 K100RS purchased in 1986: Price in 85 was $7200 ... my price for the leftover was $60001989 K100RS ABS purchased in 1990: Price in 89 was approx. $12000 ... my price for leftover was $100002000 Kawasaki W650 purchased in 2000: MSRP was $6400 ... my price for leftover was $49952008 1200 Sport purchased in 2009: MSRP was slightly over $13000 ... my price was $8499Doesn't mean I'm a great negotiator .... simply means I wait 'em out.
The total is a little over 12K out the door if you read down to the bottom of the add. Still a "steal" if that makes any sense, lol! If I didn't love my 09 so much and 4.5 years from retirement I would have that thing trucking to eastern NC. Or consider the fly and ride. I purchased my 09 from them as a leftover. They are good people to do business with for sure!
Best thins is I got 3k trade in for the old Royal Star with 50,000 miles. I tried selling it a couple times, only one person looked at it!
:1:More people buying Norge's means more attention paid to that model by MG which is a good thing. The ST market is not withering on the vine, it is evolving and adapting as the ADV and ST markets converge. There is nothing else made that provides the satisfaction of riding like the Norge does when you are underway on it. The engine (roller) is marvelous and you'd think it could power a D9 at a drag strip, seamless power and that engine is the velvet hammer of motorcycling. If you are in the market for an ST, the Norge is an equally good choice as any ither with the caveats of preemptive mods that without them being addressed it should not leave the dealership floor. Have those things done and you're good to go and in all likelihood never have to ask anyone how to fix anything nor return for other than routine service. The list is short but IMHO essential. Now THAT is a good deal - for you.
Whoa! Did NG, the seemingly ever present Scrooge of WG, just somehow inspire me to the brand??? The new 2016 year might really be a different world indeed
