Why torture yourself? Still have a motorcycle? Quite a few "men" don't because their wives say no. You're doing better than many.

fixed it for you,

I have something to say about this motor but first, a suggestion, send your wife on a cruise, just a week. That would give you plenty of time to set fire to the living room set and remodel it just the way you want. Remember, It's easier to get forgiveness than permission.

Now the hijack, is that an external oil pump on that motor? Maybe this bike was fitted with an oil cooler or even a dry sump?

I think it might be a race motor with that external pump but how is it driven?

Land Lady was not too happy but the previous renter was a harley guy who left oil all over the parking lot.

I'm betting it's an early prototype V7 engine with dry sump and frame-mounted tank. The pump is likely driven by gear off of the crank, same as the production engine, it's just the pump is mounted to the timing cover. It looks like it could be a two-stage pump as well - the forward-most stage scavenges oil from the sump and returns it to the tank, one behind is the pressure stage. The lump of fittings to the left of the pump in the photo (rider's right side) probably contains the oil pressure relief valve.

If you think about what the biggest bike Guzzi was building at the time (Falcone) and how it was configured (dry sump, frame-mounted tank and oil pump on the timing cover), it all kind of makes sense.

Boy am I glad this wasn't what made it into production!

Looking at it again, There is no oil pan. Dry sumps are better for racing too, no need for a windage tray!

When I arrived home today, my shop was in disarray. My wife had bought shelving and wall lockers and had retained a fellow to redo the lighting, insulate and drywall the ceiling, and paint. I'm feeling bad that we haven't redone the kitchen yet...

Agree with dry sump pump, lack of dipstick adds to theory, esp as hole not even drilled but lug there ready for when they did

When Karen and I sold our Northern California home last Fall, I had three collectible bikes and no space for them in our San Diego area home.  Karen said, "We can take the center leaf from our dining room table and the bikes will fit behind it.  So, there they sit; the restored 1965 BMW R-27, the 3000 mile 1974 Norton Commando 850 "Interstate" and the 1100 mile 1989 Honda GB-500.

43 years ago, I got lucky, very lucky.  Thanks, Karen.

My wife has no problems with bikes in the house. We used to have a much larger place with room for the bikes during the winter...Now we have a small house and I have a large heated shop for two and 4 wheel junk..
About 15 years ago....All the Triumphs were in the living room, they all run and are registered.... and notice no drip pans needed...
