New Motogp entry end of 2016?
« on: January 13, 2016, 08:00:26 AM »
KTM is working on a new RC16 V4 (270hp) for 2017 season.  Interesting cycleworld has a write up but it will not link to FaceBook, wonder if KTM told them to pull it down?

It isn't a secret, I've seen video of the bike being tested and interviews with the rider.

270hp on a 350b bike? How about that power to weight ratio? That's awesome!

TBI?  That's a bit odd.

I'm assuming those would be "showerhead" injectors, used to augment the port injectors.

However I'm no expert and could be completely clueless.

Thats an impressive looking powerplant. I am impressed with the bikes KTM has been building the last few years. My son's RC8 has been absolutely bulletproof in 3+ years of ownership. Too bad KTM isnt building a V4 street bike with a detuned version of that engine.....but then again, its hard enough to keep the front wheel of the RC 8  on the ground !

I've heard oil/filter changes on KTMs are a real PIA.  Is that true?

I posted a vid of the run of the KTM bike on the Moto GP thread that was killed here.

I've ridden that RC8.  Though I was never able to get it in the power range, the Mid was really strong.  It's comfy too.  I'd love to have one.  Powerful and nice to ride.

Does KTM (or Suzuki or Ducati) have chance against Yamaha muchless Honda?  No.

I have done all the service on the KTM since my son got it. The oil changes are not bad at all once you do the first one. you have to remove the lower body panels which come off easily. the filter is a long tube type ,I use a K&N available at cycle gear, there are a couple of O rings that dont need replacing at every oil change. I have not checked the valve clearance as of yet, but it should not be any harder than on an R1 I would think... The RC 8 is very well engineered, with high quality components, and very durable "dirt bike quality" plastics, that are very thick and sturdy. The ergos are very comfortable for me ,even when I weighed over 300 lbs. Now at 186lbs, the bike feels like a rocket! I have ridden it from the Mexican border to Tucson and back , a 260 mile round trip in relative comfort. It has  darned near sport touring ergonomics. The acceleration ,exhaust sound, and midrange torque on that bike are addictive.  :thumb:

Easy peasy on my 1190 adv also, but I do have to remove 6 screws that hold the bashplate on. Just installed cruise control (AP900c) and seems strange to just cruise after 18,000+ miles of hooning.

Hey Tiger, I have an 1190 adventure as well. Not having cruise was a major oversight by KTM for this type of bike. Very interested in what a AP900C is. can you give us any more details?

If Hondas Crosstourer V4 sells well in the USA, KTM might follow and put something in the mix.

Yep, I was a beta volunteer for gent in Co. that made up wiring harness to FI so as to plug in instead of cutting and soldering the wires.  Still have to remove the fuel tank as the FI connector sits right behind the neck of the frame and both intake tubes must be removed to access.

My kit I had to cut and splice wiring for: power, brake, clutch, and insert new pin into ABS ecu for speed pickup.

New kit now has plugin for ODBII connector (speed, brake, clutch), plus the FI connector, and Trail Tech switch.  As far as I can tell no more cutting and splicing.  I would be glad to help anyone wishing to do this install.  Contact "Joe" at "info@brandondist.com".  Take a look at the kit at www.brandondist.com
