V 7 rear end seal
« on: January 31, 2016, 10:32:20 AM »
is the big rear end seal facing the rear wheel the same easy change out as the old EV etc. a casual acquaintance has a 2013 and he has the weeps. Vent is open and oil level is fine. Only 13000 miles but out of warranty. it looks the same in the parts look up but he had the wheel off and thinks the hub doesn't come off.

Not as easy as big twins. Take off back cover of rear drive w/ring gear, take off ring gear, slide hub through cover out of bearing, now you can change seal in cover.

is it a slide off affair or will a puller be needed. no special tools in my garage in Az. just basics. like a big hammer and a screwdriver!

this was a 2013 with 13000 miles. owner had synthetic oil in the rear. he switched it out for regular oil and it quit leaking. maybe the V7 doesn't' like synthetics. worth trying before changing out a seal.

All the OEM fluids are synthetics.
