Just a side note Peter: It is pretty easy to retreat the material to be waterproof again. I have done it with success more than once, so I can repeat the results.

JH, I tried everything under the sun, even sent the suit back to Aerostich to have them do their clean/waterproof magic.  Finally, on a trip to Alaska, we stopped at the factory.  This after 4 days of steady rain, a real frog strangler.  When I mentioned the waterproof issue they showed me the date of manufacture (inside the upper left pocket, news to me!) and said that the Goretex does not last FOREVER.  We all had a good laugh.  The suit was 12 years old at the time.  I had used it a lot.  I have to admit that the suit was really dry for the first 10 years or so but then it started to soak up water.

Aerostitch is hard to come by in Europe The boys doing the serious riding tend to wear Rukka. Those Finns know a thing or two about keeping warm and dry. Not cheap but the best seldom is.

Here's my take,

I ride year round and long trip several times a year, which been doing for a while.  Had a used Stich 2 pc suit a dozen+ years ago, then went leather 2 pc for winter and mesh 2 pc for summer, then Rocket Survivor suit (needed one pc for track schools and thought leather would never be used off track so went textile).  Have used it quite a bit when on dual sport day rides, but to me 2 pc are best for traveling.

For me, I'm in the camp that wears mesh when traveling with heated liners underneath when it gets cold and a PVC 2 pc rain suit for the really wet stuff over the top. This way I have total versatility for hot, cold, and wet.  Got caught in a little bit of a down pour in Mo. coming back from the Springfield Mile last year. Body stayed dry but had to stop cause I couldn't see!

Took a 80 MPH tumble (literally, damn deer) a year and a half ago with the armored mesh (Scorpion Jacket and First Gear pants) and walked away in great shape, as the gear did it's job.
The best part of riding a motorcycle is to tilt the horizon and to lift the front coming out of a corner and to drift the back end powering thru loose dirt and to catch a little air topping a hill and... yeah it's all good!
