I saw Dan Hicks and the Hot Licks open for The Doors at The Berkeley Community Theater - one of my first concerts.  :azn:

So you're saying his music gives you a "lift" ?

March 18, 2011 in Winters, CA at the Palms Playhouse where I took my daughter to see his "Kollege of Musical Knowledge" revue, he left the stage and almost didn't come back to finish.  A group of drunk losers in the first row talking and laughing loudly among themselves, paying no attention to the carefully crafted (mostly acoustic) show ticked him (and the rest of us) off.  He was a genuine music lover and a true original.  RIP Dan, we miss you already.

I'm sure owning the 'Last Train to Hicksville' album in the 80's, helped win my wife. I'll drag it out tonight and play it to her while having a drink to Dan. Thanks for the music Dan!

You knew the years are catching up with you when the musicians (and actors) of your youth are dying off.
Oh well, old age beats the alternative.
Dan Hicks. Wonderful music.

I first encountered Dan Hicks & His Hot Licks 15 years ago, listening to Karson's overnight show on KPIG.com.  He liked to play "I Scare Myself," which is still one of my favorite headphone tunes.  RIP, Mr. Hicks.
