Looks like they put the footpegs ahead of the handlebars... Another nice engine ruined by a fashionable chassis.

I dunno. I mean, yeah, it's not the sport tourer that some have been fantasizing about, but I like the Scout and this seems to be a couple RCHs more sporty than the Scout.

It makes a little more torque and hp, with a slightly higher redline.

Seat height is 1.6" higher than the Scout!

And:

"The pegs are slightly farther aft than on a Scout, so, if youâ€™re 6-foot, youâ€™ll have some bend in your knees."

ALSO:

"Victory will help you tailor the Octane to your desires. There will be optional peg kits that bring the pegs backward somewhat and the bars a little lower or a little farther back or higher."

I know, not big things, but again, as a fan of the Scout, this might fit me even better.

I'll have to check it out this year.

No seriously, I get why this might not be the cup of tea for Sport Guzzi riders, but Cali owners and arguably even smallblock owners shouldn't really be hating so much. It at least, I don't get why they would...

The ergos are absurd for a machine with even the slightest sporting pretense. The weight bias is on the rear wheel...it just won't work.

I think, as usual, it comes down to a matter of relativity and the definition of sporting pretense.

Fwiw, the controls on the Scout are not much physically different to someone of my size (5'10"/32" inseam) than that of say a California (Tonti or 1400) and both of them have what some here would call a "sporting pretense" albeit not as much so as a Griso or other CARC. But then again the riders of many a Ducati or JAPanInc. supersport bikes would say the same about a Griso or other CARC.

So it's all a matter of degree.

The Scout I road handled just fine. Specs on this suggest a 32° lean angle either direction that although not the 40° of a more sporting bike is still sufficient to put it better than or at least equal with more than half the bikes on the road (I.e. Harleys and Cruisers from most brands).

That's equal to what the rubbermount Sportsters were capable of in the R "Roadster" versions 1200R/883R and approximately what my XL1200Lr is capable of.

And my Sportster has surprised many a non Harley rider including a number of Guzzi guys who have taken it for a spin and kept up with the likes of a CARC in the real world. That's not to say it would do so with equal riders in a closed course, but for real world, better than average sporting pretense it's uh, "not bad".

But yes, the more sport oriented you are, the more likely you would be to find it's limitations.

The Judge isn't a bad bike (I've demod it too). The controls are more forward (though I think you can still get the mid mounts from the first year or so it was produced), the cornering clearance is less, and if course it's a bigger/heavier bike.

So it's kinda like comparing a Dyna (like the current Low Rider) to a Sportster.

And I don't think the Judge comes very close in hp: weight ratio.

But yeah, it's all a matter of degrees.

The reactions I get from others when they show off the new shiny thing and I give a shrug and ho-hum response is really funny. The look of "how dare you not like what I like" says a lot. Me, I ride what I like and could not care less of other's opinions or choice of scoot. Just because I do not care for cruisers does not mean I hate them.

And the Scout wasn't clamshell.

Controls weren't forward enough and the bars came back too far.

It was upright.

Now THIS supposedly has the option for lower bars and more forward controls so you can make it that way, but it's also got the option to bring the controls back more...

I really try my best to appreciate American designed motorcycles and often call in at my local Harley dealership, but what are these designers being taught at college? how to wave a ugly stick. It wouldn't be a bad thing to send some of then over to Italy for a couple years to get some extra tuition.

I own a Scout. I think this thing is a mess-as I've said the last few times someone discovered this.

victory screwed the pooch.

I've had a 2013 Vic Cross country tour for a little over a year & 30,000 miles now & it is a good solid machine.

Before that I had a Gunner but it is not any kind of an interstate all day ride bike, my Mille GT is way better.

I have a Jackal & the Mille & I traded the Cali 1400 in on the big Vic but I have been missing the 1400.

I was excited by the new 1200 water cooled Triumphs but they still have not released prices on them.

I heard about the Octane and now that it is here it's a total disappointment for me.

Looks like a Griso or another 1400 for me.
