Optional Moto Guzzi panniers & top case 1100 Breva
« on: March 03, 2016, 07:45:21 AM »
Have any of you folk had experience with the optional 3 bag setup that is offered by MG for the 1100 Breva?  I read that the set with brackets runs around 1500. (whew) but....leak.  So, if a bike is offered with those proudly mentioned, should one not be impressed..:)  Reason I am asking also, is I heard they leak....1500. for a leaky setup....is that even possible?

a) there's apparently an new seal that takes care of that problem - but its quite expensive for a bit of rubber
b) if you're in the UK a complete set didn't get any bids I believe - go here http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/172110009237?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Sambobadger:

If they are with the bike, I say go with it.  O.K. the luggage leaks, the way I look at it, is, I am traveling by motorcycle, an exposed affair at best.  If I want-need pristine attire, break out the suit case and the Chevy.

On my B-1100, I am using Hepco-Becker Junior side cases.  I had the 30l side cases already from my 02 Stone, and I picked up a killer deal on a set of 40l.  For a top case I am using a J.C.Whitney unit, the Givi knock off, it has worked really well.
The above works for me, some may not like the HB Juniors on a B-1100 cosmetically, but that's o.k. with me.....

Had a lot of fun with a Honda CB750 and a frame type back pack strapped on the seat back when,.....damn progress.

I like the H B set up myself for the bags.  And I have a MG top case.  All work well.

Yes, the guzzi bags leak and the latch will eventually break. My old wixom bags NEVER leaked. C'mon for that amount of money the bags should not leak.

I too am a fan of the Hepco & Becker 30L & 40L panniers.

Not so the Guzzi ones which are Aprilia Futura bags in disguise.  They warp in the heat producing gaps that you can slip your finger through.  They also have a habit of falling off the bike.

Perhaps the ones you are referring to are not the same as the original offerings for the Breva.  If so, ignore my comments above.

I put a set on my B11 about a month ago.  I found them on eBay complete w bracketry for less than half the money you're talking about.  Search under "Norge luggage"

I've had the HB 30 liter Juniors on my 1200 Sport since shortly after taking delivery.  I'm not certain there's actually 30 liters of interior space.  Having said that, the bags are double-walled, extremely sturdy, as are the mounts.  I used monofilament fishing line to 'saw' the HB logos off the bags, and replaced them with Guzzi badges that look factory.  They're not as "Italian-stylish" as the Guzzi OEM bags, but I've grown to like their appearance on the mostly black Sport.

I purchased a set of 40 liter Juniors in black and white that use the same mounts.  They do hold a bunch, but should come with their own wide load sign.

Here's a pic with the 30 L bags.

Main ride:  2008 Guzzi 1200 Sport (sold July 2020)
2012 Griso 8v SE (sold Sept '15)
Reliable standby: 1991 BMW R100GS
2014 Honda CB1100 (Traded Nov 2019)
New:  2016 Triumph T120 (Traded Dec 2021)
New:  2021 Kawasaki W800
