REMOVING TANK FROM '13 NTX
« on: April 01, 2016, 01:35:31 PM »
Is there anything special about removing the fuel tank?  (I'm putting on Rox risers and have to re-route the control cables.)  Anyone have suggestions relevant to the Stelvio?

You will have to un-hook the fuel quick disconnect, which can be a PITA.  Sometimes it helps to unplug the fuel pump, turn on the ignition and fire the engine to take pressure off the fuel line.  Otherwise removing the tank is just a matter of taking off some plastic and such.  At least everything is in plain sight.

As noted, modern MG tank quick-disconnects - aren't. Consider splicing in a proper metal one between the factory connector and the feed to the fuel injection. They're readily available at hot rod shops or other automotive sources, and most BMW dealers tend to stock them since they have a similar issue on their bikes.

On the NTX it will be difficult to splice in one.  There just isn't much room between the QD barb and the frame.

There is a fairly tight fitting cover going over what you see here.

tank is easy taken off. one center front, 2 left and right top front, 2 bottom , and two at the back , after you took off the fuelpump cover.

So I see - well, at least it's not underneath the tank as on most others. You can actually get at the release collar on that one!

I messaged Jason from M.I. and from his home, on Sunday, he told me how to release the f.i. feed.  Good people and thank God for Instant Messenger.  Tank and covers off...now to have fun re-routing the control cables.
