Griso magic trick
« on: April 08, 2016, 08:30:47 PM »
I've read the Griso reviews, heck I've been wanting one since a test ride 6yrs. ago. My ship came in this past Valentines as some of you know(thanks again wifey!!)
But last night I came upon a reference from a tester to touching starter button with one poke and it takes over from there and fires bike up!
No need to hold down button! What the?? I know I live in a cave, but I never have heard this "magic trick" mentioned before.
Is this a Guzzi wide thing or a tiny gift from the Griso gods? Auto's being the exception.
Magic trick #2 today was going 163 miles on one tank of gas, and it's still "guzzi tight" with only 1,300miles(this, with agressive riding and a run up to "the ton" today)
Anyways, some pic's from todays 200mile blast north of Atlanta,GA.
First phots for Charlie and any other MZ admirers.

Photo of the run over Fort Mountain and graffiti lookout..

A closer look reveals guard rail wisdom..

Now, I've had the fortune(mis?)to attempt to follow a few of the faster recliners.
Humbling to be sure..
All in all, loving the mighty Griso!
~a good day
So, what say ye? Am I the only Griso owner out of the loop on this starter button magic trick?? :boozing:

MZ Country... Half-a-Stelvio!

I want!

The starter thing sounds like our last three Mercedes. Engage and let go. I gather that this is not intended on the Griso?

Pretty sure this is normal on the Griso and 1200 Sport , if not more models .

With regards to one poke of the starter my Ducati Multistrada 620 was the same.  You are supposed to release the starter button  immediately.  It will then turn over until it starts or times out.  Not supposed to keep thumb on button.

I had no idea that this system had migrated to motorcycles but then again, why wouldn't it?

I should think that it's a bit disconcerting were one to not expect it and perhaps lift one's thumb in a change of mind.

If I remember rightly this feature is something that is hard coded into the map of some bikes. Certainly the early 8V's have it but I think that the later ones don't for some reason. You can, if you so desire, flash your later ECU with a map based on an earlier iteration that has the hard code and then, magically, your bike will Aquire the feature.

Mark and Paul are likely to be more accurate than me on that. All I know is my bike has it and I find it fun to show it off outside the pub on the way home!

You are correct sir! My Norge was like that as is my Stlevio. The new 1400 is not. Go figure. Maybe because the starter button also changes engine mapping, IDK???

The earlier bike had the starter hard wired, the later ones have the start relay wired to the ECU or dash, that's why they can add this feature

It's not true for the recent V7 (I or II) STB models.  On these bikes, if you let go of the starter button prematurely, sometimes the bike gets baulky about starting, although it eventually does.  It almost acts like it's "flooded", once it even backfired loudly before finally starting.

If you have a late model car the same trick will work.  After the first momentary contact of the ignition switch the computer takes over and starts the engine. This is especially true with late model cars that have factory remote start.  Try it in your car, you might be surprised. Give the ignition switch a momentary twist and see what happens.
